Hi again!!:goodvibes

I have the DVC rep ringing me today, and I just want to be clear on everything!!:thumbsup2

Is it possible to choose your UY when you buy into DVC??? (I am hoping for a split contract between BCV resale and BLT if they will let me do it!!;))

We are in the UK and won't be visiting WDW again until Dec 2010 (we have our flights etc already booked!!). We then wouldn't be able to vacation again until the middle of 2012. Therefore I was wondering if I could get a late UY (say Nov time) as otherwise I guess I am going to lose a years points.:confused3

Any idea how flexible they are with UY?? Is this the same on resales too??

thanks for any info!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I wouldn't buy BCV direct when you can save a lot of money buying resale.

Right now Disney is selling February UYs but others may be available. Discuss availability with your Guide.

With BLT, you can absolutely designate your UY. Just tell your Guide which one you want. With resales, you cannot pick a different UY. Remember that the seller is selling their existing contract, so the number of points, UY, home resort, etc. are all set. Happy purchasing! :yay:

Yes, you can get the UY that works best for you as a new buyer!!! I wanted June and that is what I got! Disney does not have Nov UY, but they do have Oct and Dec that you will be able to choose from when you call (since at this point, I am sure that they have all available for BLT).

With resale, the UY will be the one that is listed. If you want a specific one, then you would wait for a contract that has the one you want (ie: If you want Oct, then you wait until you see a BCV resale contract with October). If you buy resale and then add on at Disney, they will give you the same UY you already have, unless you really want something different. And then, there are rules about that!

Good luck and I hope that Disney can work things out for you!!!

Can I just double check (I am usually quite smart;) but I can't get my head around this UY thing properly).

We are next going to WDW in Dec 2010. We then won't be going until May (or possibly Aug) 2012. If I buy BLT/AKV (and therefore have a choice of UY), does it matter what UY I get?? - I would be using 2009 & 2010 points for Dec 2010 & then would bank 2011 points for the 2012 trip. ( I am planning long term to go every other year, and ideally want to bank & use, rather than use & borrow - so in effect I want to be a year 'ahead' if that makes sense!!:thumbsup2

Does this make any difference to my UY or does it not matter?? (we will typically travel once every other year in either May, Aug or Oct).

thanks for any advice!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We are just finished our contract for our purchase at BLT. Since we typically vacation in the fall at Disney we selected a UY of September.
I was told we had our pick of months for UY so I would just ask your guide.

As others have said, you do have a choice of UY when purchasing BLT. However, we had to ask - our guide didn't explain that we had a choice, he just said use year was Feb. We wanted, and got, June, b/c it worked better for us based on when we usually visit the World!

Good luck!

We just purchased yesterday and we were able to select a June use year for us. Being a teacher and a coach we will usually go in December or during the summer and she agreed that June would be a great use year for us.

Based on your next trip, Dec. 2010, and the fact that you will most likely travel during May, Aug or Oct in the futuer, I would choose an April UY.

With April UY, you will have until Nov. 30th to bank points. That means that you would be within your banking window, if you had to cancel at least 31 days in advance, to still bank points for any of your trips(even for the Dec trip since cancelling that 31 days out would bring you back into Nov--still your banking window).

And, if you bought in at BLT/AKV through Disney with an April UY, you would have 2009 and 2010 points to use for Dec 2010 trip.

Good luck!!

When I spoke to the DVC rep yesterday, he offered me a Dec contract. He said that, that way, I would have Dec 2009 points & Dec 2010 points for the Christmas 2010 trip, but then any unused points from Dec 2010 could be banked for use in 2012 - which is realistically when we would next be going (probably May or August 2012).

After May/2012, we would probably be going every 18 months - prob Oct 2013, then not till May 2015, then Oct 2016 and so on!!! (basically using 1 & 1/2 years points each trip)

Does Dec therefore seem like a good use year to you for my needs??:confused3 ( for some reason I still don't quite get this!!:lmao:)

Here is how I figure it. I decide when I will travel and what UY that travel falls. Once I know that, I know that it can be "paid" for with points that are "banked" from the previous year, "current year" points, and "borrowed" from the next UY.

With Dec UY:

Your Oc 2013 trip would be part of your Dec 2012 UY. That can be paid with banked 2011, 2012 and borrowed 2013.

May 2015 trip would fall in your Dec 2014 UY. That can be paid for with banked 2013, 2014, and borrowed 2015.

Oct 2016 trip would fall in your Dec 2015 UY. That can be paid for with banked 2014. 2015, and borrowed 2016.

At some point, I think with an 18 month plan, you are going to find yourself short of what you need.

I will try to quickly run what would happen with April UY and post back!!
