UY and booking question

We just bought our 1st contract, with a dec uy. We got 2019 points and are using them for a trip in November. If we want to go again in March of 2021, our points won't load until Dec 2020 correct? Do I have to wait until then? Or can you still book at 11 months out if the points haven't loaded yet? I feel like this is a stupid question..

No, your points are all in your account already. What happens on Dec 1st of every year....your UY...the points just change status to current UY points.

You can always book 11 months in advance for a trip. It is the UY of the trip that matters in figuring out what you can do. So, a March 2021 trips happens in your Dec 2020 UY. You can call in April 2020...11 months out...and book that trip using banked 2019 UY points (if you have them), 2020 UY points, and borrow 2021 UY points to complete the reservation if needed.

PS Not a stupid question. Dec UY is sometimes that hardest to wrap your head around because the bulk of travel is in the next calendar year vs. the actual UY.

The problem with booking a Nov trip using a Dec UY is that if you need to cancel, you have to either cancel early enough to be able to bank your points (by July 31 each year for Dec UY). If you can't cancel before Jul 31, you have to rebook before the end of Nov and that becomes difficult with DVC because of the most visited time of mid-Sept to mid-Jan. Otherwise, you lose those points. Or you rent them out to someone who can use the trip you booked.

We usually use our tiny Dec UY contract (50 points) for our Dec trips.

thank you for saying this. we finally took the plunge and purchased RIV with a DEC UY and even though I've been all over the boards, have rented numerous times prior to purchasing, and feel like I know generally how DVC works, this Dec UY has been hard to figure out. I know as time goes on and I book more trips I will have a better handle on it but it was a little confusing at first for sure
