I have tried to read through all of the golf cart threads looking for this answer but I haven't been successful. We own a Kawasaki Mule (like a John Deere Gator)-would we be allowed to use that at the campground in place of a golf cart or would that be considered to fall into the ATV category?

I have seen some around but I think they will say no. I think it falls in the ATV rule. With the latest rash of GC troubles they may be cracking down.

Can't find anything in writing, but I know I've seen it somewhere that they're not allowed. Might be a good idea to call ahead and ask. Of course if you call 3 times you're likely to get 3 different answers, so if someone tells you "yes" be sure to get their name. :thumbsup2

we have been at the fort many times with our neighbors bringing UTV's. As stated above, you will get dozens of different answers from CM. The rules from what I read says no. Usually you will get a least a 1/2 a day of ride time on a utv until you are asked to park it or remove it. I would have loved to buy a utv vs. buying a GC but I know it would have been banned

Here's an exerpt from the rules I received which are dated 5/29/09.

Private Cart Operation

Private carts approved for use in FW

- Must be golf style carts with maximum speed not to exceed 20 MPH
- Must have seating capacity for all passengers on board cart.
- Passengers are not permitted to stand while the cart is in motion
- Must be equipped with head and tail lights to operate after dusk
- Please obey all posted traffic signs, rules, regulations, safety precautions and operational usage grid printed on the back.

NOT PERMITTED - Off road, ATV, Utility or Construction-type carts.
Golf cart privileges at FW may be revoked from those not abiding by the above rules.
All drivers must follow the cart safety precautions.
Large, noisy, or utility type vehicles are not allowed. Must be a golf cart style cart only.

I knew I read it somewhere ;)

ETA - I just added the private cart rules info to the GC thread and the FAQ sticky. Thanks :)

I am considering buying an Army surplus Hummer. So what do you guys think - can I use it at the fort like a golf cart? Oh please, please tell me yes!

Way cool Jim ! I don't see why not. Then you could tote half the Grand Gathering fiends at one time and go looping !

1) As long as you hang fringe from the roof, shouldn't be a problem.
2) It might help to glue a golf club on the side door, to claim golf usage.

Below are pic of the handout we were given on check in three days ago on 12/16 so this is hot off the press. I will let other intrepret it.

That is the date of the ones I posted pics of in my post.

It was easier to just take a quick pic, upload it to DIS photo gallery and link to it.

This is a more current version of the previous handout that I was linking to in the Golf Cart thread/sticky. I've updated it with this - thanks Larry!

No problem and the date is hard to read but is on the first page at the very lower right.

Thank you for the information, I truly appreciate it. Ft Wilderness Guy, I really wasn't trying to sound like a nutjob-after looking at some of the golf cart photos (which look totally gorgeous) my husband posed the question. (so that would make him the nutjob LOL)

Larry,
No worries, much better to have a snapshot. I just cut 'n pasted it from a post I had done 2 months ago when someone else asked a golf cart question.

Guess you are glad to be in Florida - your "homestead" got nailed pretty good with the recent snowstorm. We were about an hour north of your house on Friday and decided to head back south ahead of the snow. Didn't want to get stuck at relatives house with that much snow coming - - 20+ inches :eek:

You should be fine as long as you string lights on it, pile on 12 of your closest friends and let a 13 year old drive it. :rolleyes1

I was there recently i got in on the 7 th and stayed til 18 th of Dec i saw a gator there several days at the bus stop at front and saw kids driving a cart one day so they are not enforcing rules still but my luck if i brought a utv they would tell me not to use it so i will keep bringing my electric cart its still stock but hoping to do some work this spring to change that
