Using Xyron refill without machine??

I have the Xyron 150 (little X) and rarely use the actual machine. I find it much easier to get the tiny items into it without the bulky frame work....it also doesn't waste as much adhesive that way.

Anyway, I was trying to make shaker boxes for the scavenger hunt & wanted to put the foam layer through. Unfortunately, I'd cut the square too large & it wouldn't fit. (I ended up cutting it in half, which worked but I ran into other problems. The Xyron worked great on the foam though!)

This got me to thinking that I could really use a Xyron that was a little larger as it wasn't the first time I wanted to put adhesive on something "large." So finally my question....Can you use the refills for other sizes alone also? Or is the little X the only one that lets you do that?

I've got the Xyron 510 and I use it for larger items (like shaker boxes). Michaels carries the refills for it.

There is also the 250 which is just a little bit bigger than the little X.

I like to use the little X for Sizzlets letters.

I have wondered this myself. I almost ordered just the refill on Joann website today to see but changed my mind. Maybe if I bump this up someone will know.
