Has anyone used video cameras to record the rides while you are on them? We have a Go Pro camera I would love to take with us.

As long as you don't use the light on rides that say "no flash photography" (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc.), you should be okay. There are also rides, such as Soarin' and Tower of Terror, that do not allow any photography, so you couldn't do so on those rides. The CM for each ride will mention the rules as you get on the ride.

its fine to use one i guess, i would not use a flash though.. i never use my flash on rides and i have never videotaped a ride either..;) and i would not use it on rides like soarin and the other ones sonnyjane mentioned!

so what is a go pro camera?

I always get annoyed when I'm on a ride and the person in the seat in front of me has their arm up, holding a recorder, for the whole ride. It's really distracting.

But I don't think there is any rule against it. Maybe just try to be aware of the people around you? Like hold the camera out and down, instead of up in the air?

It doesn't have a flash so we would be ok there. Its a sports camera. We use it for getting video of my husband passes for drag races. Here is a link to the Go pro site. Its cool!

I don't like it when people do that either. I would only use it if we were in the front or in no ones way. I would never want to ruin a ride for someone :thumbsup2

I always request the last seat so I am not bugging anyone. Never use the light, but do take movies/still pics of everything.

Hold on tight to that camera. I said in another thread I have this picture of someone video taping on a ride and losing a grip on the camera and someone getting really hurt by it. Seeing a picture someone took while Screamin was going upside down made me a little queasy to say the least. :scared1:

I saw that too! Ya cameras falling could really hurt someone!!

I'm guilty of it too, I have one of BTMRR but I couldn't imagine doing it on Screamin. :scared1: That's just dangerous. :confused3

Never had the camera's even try to leave my hands. With neck/wrist straps and a good grip...you know you can let go of the bars and get some pretty decent shots.

Thanks everyone for the pointers and help. I am excited to try it and see how it works.

 Just a tip, figure out how to change the settings on your video camera (or take the instruction booklet, if it's small) and on indoor (a.k.a dark) rides you might want to adjust it to "nightime" or "indoor/low lighting" setting. Even if it supposedly auto-adjusts, still learn how to manually set it -- I have found that the camera doesn't always pick the best setting automatically.

By changing the setting,(auto or manual) you will get video that is much closer to what the actual ride is like... otherwise, you could be looking at too dark segments with intermittent good recording. Trust me, BTDT :rolleyes1

Lesson learned... if only I had thought to take a minute while waiting in line for the next ride to check how it was recording, instead of when we got back to the hotel at night. :sad2: But in reality, I wouldn't have even known how to change it. I figured that out later. Oh well. I probably would have made things worse fiddling with something I didn't know how to do anyway. :confused3 Who knows? It was a good excuse to take another trip. (like I needed one of those ;) NOT)

I wouldn't mind a camera. And you probably get a totally different experience when later watching it.

My only gripe with people videoing on rides is that a lot of newer cameras don't have viewfinders and instead have a screen that pops out the side. These screens are very bright on rides like POTC and HM. and very distracting to people behind you, to your sides, and even in front of you! Even if you close the screen and record blind, be aware of the indicator lights on the camera as well. a piece of tape or careful thumb placement can make the ride enjoyable for everyone! :thumbsup2

My uncle thought it would be a great idea to videotape Star Tours, I don't recommend that to anyone! I was so sick after watching it played back on tv.
