Hi Guys

We are tempted by the United offers on-line at the moment. The flight we are thinking of on the way out only has a 1hr 9min changeover time in Washington. Based on your experiences of Washington Dulles, Is this enough time to get through Security in Washington and change planes?

Appreciate your comments on both United Airlines and the changeover time......

Andy

Least connection time we have accepted is 90 mins but we did do it in 60 mins so it is possible but its tight, are there other flights later for the internal leg to Orlando? If there are they will get you on next if you miss the one you should be on.
Have you checked other sites to see if other/better options are available?
Have you considered Tampa airport? sometimes better connection times and only another 30 mins away(depending where you stay)

We used United though Dulles this past April and although we found the process there quite easy, I would certainly want more than a little over an hour to get off the plane, collect luggage, go through immigration and customs, get rid of the luggage again and get to my connecting flight. :scared:

We once spent 2 hours in the immigration queue in Chicago - and our wait was only so "low" because our DD was only 3 y.o. at the time and we were given priority by one of their officers!

Dulles airport does have an advantage in that they have two customs halls - one for people staying in Washington and leaving the airport, and one for people staying in the airport and taking connecting flights. This means the queues are typically smaller than you'd find at many airports.

However, I'd still agree with the others that just over an hour is going to make for a very tight connection and personally I wouldn't go for anything less than 90 minutes.

Hi Steve

We looked at doing this, this year. We go in July and not yet booked flights. United had a some real savings over and above the others. We looked at flying into Washington, then to New York. Then on the way home, out of Orlando, Chicago then home. It was giving us a price of £1650.00 for 3 adults and 2 kids. Virgin (albeit direct) is £2560.00.

Having said all that we were looking at booking yesterday (Sunday) and checked again, and they have gone up to £2700.00!!!!!!!!! and Virgins up to £2800.00.

Still not sure what to do now!

Steve
