Hi everyone! I'm busy planning our first family trip to disney world. We're going mid-Sept and will be staying in the cabins at the Fort. The party includes myself, DH, DD1 (will be turning 4 while we're there), DD2 - who is 2, and my mom and step-day. I'm really getting into the planning part :)

Anyway, I'm trying to find out more about the ferries to MK. And, I have a few questions:

1. Is it the best way to get to MK before rope-drop? We'd like to get there about half an hour before rope-drop, if possible.
2. How long is the ferry trip?
3. Does it drop you off right at the gate?
4. What time is the first departure?

and -- where else can you take the ferries?

Thanks :)

There are two boat launchs at the Fort, one goes directly to the MK and the other goes to the MK resorts. The direct MK boats start running about an hour before line drop, including EMH days. It drops you off close to the gate, about a two miniute walk.
If you want to get there earlier,go to FW Landing about 6:45 or 7:00, catch the small resort boat to Contemporary, then walk through the Contemporary, go to the right outside & take the walk path to MK. About a 5 min walk. We always take this boat when we have dining ADRS before the park opens.
You can only take a boat from the Fort there is no MK bus....I love the boat ride, especialy at night.

the ferries your talking about are the big one that only go from thre transportation and tickets center to MK and back. drops you off in front on the park.

I think Texican is going to the MK from the Fort, staying in the cabins. Wouldn't want to go all the way to the transportation and ticket center just to take the big ferries, that would take forever. Just need to take the boats from the marina at the fort straight to the MK.

One thing to keep in mind..if there is bad weather (lightning) around, they will stop the ferries from running. There are no other ways to get between FW and MK without going in a roundabout way. For example, we had a Princess Tea Party lined up for our daughter but the ferries were not running, so we figured there would be a bus that would take us. After waiting for a MK bus for 30 minutes we finally asked and were told there isn't one. You have to catch a bus to Epcot and then take the monorail to main ticketing and jump on the one for the hotels/MK....
