Using room key for charges

I am still debating on giving an imprint of my Visa to use my room key to charge stuff at WDW. Can you put a limit on how much can be spent?

Also, part of our package is a free lanyard. Are these good quality and do the room keys have a hole in them so that they can be attached to the lanyard?

we loved having the room charging privledges on our card we never had to carry any cashjust our pass and key it was great.

also you can choose to just have 1 ccard have the priveledges or whatever cards you want if you have kids you can just have there key be a room key with no priveldges.

they give you a 1500.00 max then if you reach that you just go to the desk and they up it to more

it can be used on anything in the disney property.

Actually the limits on the room card depend on which level of resort you're staying at. If you're at a Value resort the limit is $500. If you're at a Moderate resort the limit is $1000. The Deluxes and DVC resorts have a limit of $1500. There is no hole in the card for them to attach to a lanyard. We have a clear pouch, which holds cards, we attach to the clip on our lanyards to hold our cards and AP's.

That sounds like a good idea. I can probably pick those up at Wal-Mart or Target.

You are more likely to find the plastic pouches or "badge holders" at Office Depot, Office Max, or Staples.

Wal-Mart or Target "might" have them in their office supply section, but I wouldn't count on it.

Last year when we spent a week at OKW my husband allowed our 2 teens to have their own credit privelidges. They loved it. They knew the limits. They had each brought their own money. They gave it to me to hold. They would charge things on their card and when we got back to the room they added up what they had spent and subtracted it from what they had. I felt it was a good lesson for them and my 13 yearold said it was the highlight of her trip. By the way my kids ended up spending more on their frienda than their selves. Have a great trip.

Just a news tidbit, thanks to wireless technology, you may now use your room key or a credit card at any of the carts and stands at the Magic Kingdom. This will soon be implemented to all four theme parks, if it hasn't already.

Just one more way Disney makes it easy to take your money!

Wow, Tyler, now THAT's really cool! Now people really won't have to carry any cash at all if they don't want to. Usually I have had to carry at least some cash with me for the bottled waters and Mickey ice cream bars that I get. But this will be great.

That was not implemented last week, and I am not sure I saw it at Magic Kingdom, but that's a great idea. That was the main reason why I brought cash to Disney.

Now the only reason going forward will be for the valet!

There was a cart between the TeaCups and ToonTown where I bought a Mickey Bar and some Water. I used my Card here. Also used it at a Popcorn stand in Liberty Square. Also at another popcorn (gosh.. i like popcorn) stand in AK.

I wish the balloon people took the card. That's why I have to carry cash. Need to get DD the obligitory balloon.

We love the convenience of room charge-backs. It allows us to carry very little cash. We also give our children (12, 9, 7) charging priveleges as it makes them feel important and we don't have to worry about them losing cash. Of course we provide limits and are nearby in most cases to give the cashier a nod of approval, especially for our 7 year old.!

Although it's fairly new to be implemented park wide, there have been some places that have been able to do it for awhile. The Food & Wine Festival at Epcot had them. And I saw one at DAK the other day.

They're not full registers, though. Basically, it's a small gray palm pilot sized item, very small, very easy to miss.

This is true you can use your room key to charge almost everywhere on WDW property. A few places like balloon vendors and such won't take them. Oh and a few other places like the Swan & Dolphin also places like the House of Blues and Planet Hollywood are torn on whether or not they will accept them. So they work most everywhere. As far as the limit like jel0511 said it's different for each resort category. But like at PC if you don't want to have a $500 limit you can always ask for it to be lower! Also a common misconception is that your Credit info is encoded onto your room key, which is completely FALSE, we just hold your credit card info on our computer system. So actually when you charge something on your key, it charges your resort, then the resort charges your credit card! Once you reach your $500 limit you either have to wait till the next day or just contact the Front Desk of your resort and tell them you want to have another $500 to charge with. That's about it, oh you can put a hole in your key, but sometimes it will cause your key to not work properly, so I would not always recommend that. Hopefully that answers everyone's questions!

So THAT's what that black thing was sitting on the popcorn cart outside of Island Mercantile. It looked like the person had a palm pilot on a stand or something, and I assumed that she was taking inventory or something. Once the technology gets pretty reliable, they should advertise that you can pay that way, because I had no idea that I could have used a card there.

Indeed... I imagine once they make sure everything is working 100%, they will start posting signs saying all that. But in the mean time, if you see one of those palm pilot thingies, chances are they can take your credit card or room charge!
