Hi! My sister and I were recently gifted a RCI week from a family member. Their home hotel is Vacation Village at Parkway in Orlando. Is it still true that we cannot transfer to a DVC resort in Orlando? If we can't use it for an Orlando DVC hotel, we were wondering how difficult it would be to get a DVC resort elsewhere (grand californian, aulani, vero beach, etc.). Any help is much appreciated!

RCI will not allow you to trade an Orlando resort for a Disney resort, it is true.

You will never get Grand Cali with RCI. I don't know that DVC deposit anything off campus, but I am sure never VGC.

Is it a week or RCI points. If it's a week then I agree, if it's RCI points it's not necessary 100% not possible but still unlikely. It depends on how their account is set up. Likely the Hilton's, Bonnet Creek & Fountains are the best options for RCI in that situation. But VV is a decent resort if you can avoid the exchange and guest certificate fee though I think the others can be worth the extra costs.

VVP is either regular RCI points or a regular week with TPU'es.

The regular week can't exchange into DVC in Orlando dont know if the points has the same restriction, both should however be able to exchange into Aulani in HI. There have been recent reports about people exchanging into Aulani through RCI. They reported getting a 2BR in June/July 2018. Even with the reports it is rare to see such deposits into RCI from DVC.

Challenge might be with the week or points you got gifted that they are not "worth" enough tpu'es/points to get a match. Meaning that even if you saw an Aulani week you couldn't get it as it costs too many RCI points or tpu'es.

There are actually other possibilities. It could also be an RCI points resort elsewhere that has a reservation preference through RCI for other resorts under the same management (dailymanagementresorts.com). At one time it seemed the first RCI points resort drove this issue so if you had only an Orlando resort listed you were shut out or if it was listed as the first one you were likely shut out, I haven't seen anything on this issue lately. But if you already had an account and added an Orlando RCI points resort to the RCI account it was hit or miss. As you note, one can trade to other locations but resorts in those areas are also blocked to regional exchange of 30 miles. Normally points mini systems like Hilton, Wyndham or Bluegreen are OK.

We were gifted a week, and not points, so it sounds like a Disney resort probably isn't going to work out for us. I appreciate everyone's responses, it was very helpful!
