Has anyone used Priceline for Airline tickets? What was your experience like?

We are going to Louisville, KY over Labor Day weekend for my Nephew's wedding. Southwest and Jet Blue do not fly out of Denver so we can's' use those airlines. I found a great fare on American thru Dallas but it is on Priceline (now they can show you the exact flights so it's not a total mystery) When I go to the American Airlines web site, the price for the same flights practically doubles.

I'm concerned about using Priceline mostly because I haven't used them before. Also if there is a problem with our flights, will we be the last folks to get rerouted since we bought thru Priceline, and not American?

Thanks for letting me ramble. I'm hoping someone on the DIS has some experience with this.

Thanks so much!!!

Elise

Elise,

I've never used Priceline for airline tickets before, but I have used them very successfully for hotel rooms and car rentals. (I just got a 4* hotel room for $80 a night in Baltimore near the Innerharbor for a Friday and Saturday night stay. The hotel's website listed the cheapest room as being $279 a night!)

You might want to check out the website biddingfortravel.com. I think it caters to hotel rooms a little more than airline bidding, but they do have discussion about the airfares people have been getting.

Good luck!

The one time I used priceline for airline tickets, I had a 2-segment trip, SYR-PHL and PHL-DTW ... the SYR-PHL segment would have been late, to the point that I would have missed my connection to DTW. I got in line to speak to the gate agent. When I got to the front of the line, they asked my name, and said that they had already rebooked me on a different carrier, printed a new itinerary sheet for me, and told me to go check in with Northwest. I was impressed.

I used price line for air tickets once but it was a couple of years ago. I was flying to Lexington, KY so knew that I couldnt' get a non-stop and it worked out saving me money.

One of my nephews also did it and ended up on a prop plane so it is best to check jet service only.

Once you are ticketed there is no difference between you and other passengers. How you paid for your tickets will not make a difference in how the work the rerouting. We were even offered a voucher for a free flight when they had to bump some passengers, too bad we just weren't able to do it then!

I am also from Colorado and I use priceline all the time. Never had a problem with them. You book the flight and you are treated like all the other passengers, only you saved a lot of money. Definitely use Priceline to save money and don't be afraid.

If anyone needs a bonus link for $10 off each airline ticket, just pm me! I don't need mine. I've never used them for flying, but do quite frequently for hotels. Do you think they sent me a hotel bonus link... NO!

Would love to give this away if anyone needs it! :D
