Using points in Paris DisneyLand

Hi,

Looking at the point cost, for the hotels at the Paris DisneyLand, I am wondering why they are so high (compared to the cash cost and point costs at other hotels in the Disney collection).
Has anyone used their points for any of the Paris DisneyLand hotels.

Comparing the cash price of the hotels, to the actual cost of the points (the amount paid for the points in purchase price and fees), does anyone see any value in using DVC points in Paris?

I guess if I am concerned I won't otherwise use the points, it might be of some value.

I should probably also compare risk.
Since this trip will be a side trip of a business trip to Grenoble (which could get cancelled), I should make certain my reservation is mostly refundable.

The point value is high, and probably has to do with the fact that it technically a different corporation that runs Disneyland Paris, I believe, soit's more on line with using points for a hotel than a Disney Resort.

Absolutely if you aren't sure, make normal reservations and rent points out if you need to.

It's important to remember for DLP, the points per night cover not only the room, but also admission to the parks and breakfast for each night of your stay. At least that's the way I interpret it.

I noticed this, and it made me wonder why the point cost didn't look like it changed if I had 1 person in the room versus 4.
Since I will be alone the value decreases.

I also noticed that park admission is similar to the old Length of Stay pass that DisneyWorld used to sell to those booking packages. One would have to plan on visiting the park on the first and last day of their stay to get the full value.

I didn't see a way to book the hotel (either via points or via disney.com with cash) without buying a package.

I am not in a situation where my points are about to expire or anything. I have until September to bank them, and half of this years were borrowed last year. However, since I would not want the hassle of renting them (unless it was via a transfer to another member's account) my value comparisons will differ from someone who is willing to do a rental. I tend to compare cash cost of the accomodations to point cost (based on what I actually paid for the points, not even considering lost interest by not having the money invested elsewhere).
Paris is the first time this comparison came out such that it was really cheaper to pay cash. However, if I put 4 people in the room, it does come out to a small savings.

Thank you

I'm curious how you do this; I've been trying to figure out a way to determine the "worth" or "value" of a point to do exactly what you discuss: determine if it's better to pay cash or use points outside of a DVC resort.

PM me if you'd prefer, but I'm really curious about this, in part because I'm trying to figure out if I have enough points. (Although, can one really ever have enough?)

I used points for my visit a few years ago. (I was alone also)

I felt like it was a good deal. For my two night stay (off season) I got three days of park passes and two breakfasts. Considering the dollar was at one of it's low points against the Euro (as it is again now) I felt like I did pretty well.. Plus I stayed at one of the nicer hotels and if I had been paying I doubt I would have treated myself so well...

It is possible to book a room only at DLP, but I think you have to CALL them directly and it's not easy. There is a Disneyland Pairs forum on here where I learned how to do it...

We used some of our points at DLP last year for 4 nights at the Disneyland Hote. The hotel is beautiful - in a similar style to the Grand Floridian and literally right over the entrance to the Magic Kingdom park. Full character breakfast each day in the hotel and length of stay passes are included so the value is much more than just the room. Of course being in France the food was fantastic. Yes - it is expensive, even when we only had to travel from the UK, but it was worth it. You should bear in mind that there are only Magic Kingdom and Disney Studios there and that neither of them have the number of attractions that are in the WDW parks .... but it's still worth it.

Hi, We go to DLP all the time and have never used our points. We also look for the deals, especially if you go off season. We will be going next month and got 4nites for the price of 3 with an additional 15% off. Mousesavers has more info on the discounts they offer. Also, keep in mind that if you reserve with dlp, they have a cancellation fee starting 30 days out. I have stayed in all the hotels, except Hotel New York (where we are staying next month) and my favorite is Disneyland Hotel. Newport is ok too but really huge!! If you value your points and want to use cash and have extra to burn I would recommend Castle Club. It is concierge at Disneyland hotel. It was amazing, and being very very pregnant last time with 2 tots, it was worth every penny!
