Im staying at the Polynesian for 4 nights during our 4rh of July trip in the Hawaii building concierge style.Im glad we can use points for other resorts and get the best.I could have stayed in a 2 bedroom for less points but I wanted to stay on the rail again.I used 282 points but The room would have cost me $2,200.00 if paying cash.It would have been less points if i stayed during the week but im staying wed-sun so it's a few more points. After staying a bunch of times in the villas I needed a change.

The best use of your points, is using them for what makes you happy.
We too use our points for such indulgences. We just returned from three nights AKL concierge using points. Two of the nights were weekends, and it was during peak season. We have also used points for Poly concierge.

Enjoy the Poly!!!

I absolutely love your philosophy.

What you may want to try sometime is use your points Sun-Thurs at a DVC resort than pay cash at a place like the Poly. You should enjoy the change, I used my points for an away visit once, you do get tired of DVC or in my case WDW. Have fun at the Poly!

That is the best! statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful philosophy.......and absolutely correct!

Have a great trip!!! The Poly is on our wish list - maybe an anniversary trip -till then, we'll be at one of the DVCs.princess:

I am a new DVC owner :) (awaiting to be put into the MS system), and I think that is one of the best pieces of advice I have gotten. My hubby loves the Poly, and we will most definitely use some points for a short stay there.

Thanks MG for just reinforcing what I thought.:D

If you have the points, and you want to use them that way, why not? We love the Polynesian too!

However, I suspect they pop the cork over at Member Services whenever someone uses points to stay at a non-DVC resort on a weekend.

I agree that you should use your points based on what makes you happy. At the same time, I am a little disappointed in how many points they charge DVC members to stay at non DVC resorts within WDW.

I realize that they are two separate entities within WDW, but you would think the number of points required would be more reasonable. Enjoy your trip!

Your trip sounds like fun!! Next time you do this you may want to try renting those points, and then paying cash for the room. $2820 might get you an extra night or two with an AP rate. Still, the way you are doing it guarantees you that the room(and the view!!) will be waiting for you! Enjoy!:sunny:

Just a quick question. How do you go about renting. I know renting on this site sounds like the easiest, but what do you do regarding a contract etc.

By reading previous messages, I realize that the easiet way is to conference in with DVC to book reservation and then have client sent me a certified check, but how about contract between me and purchaser, or is that necessary. Thanks!

We rented points for the first time last fall. We had OKW booked for 12/28-1/02/04 and decided to try for an Epcot location and got Swan at teacher's rate of $214 for CL. We rented the OKWpoints for $10.00 ($1380) and Swan was less than that so we made some spending money. It was very easy;we posted on rent/trade board and got about three inquiries before someone definitely committed to them. We changed the dates for them thru MS, and sent them the confirmation and they sent us the whole amount(usually 1/2 at confirmation and 1/2 30 days before, but the renters wanted to pay it all). It was painless and gave us the experience at the Swan which was wonderful(we are DVc members and have stayed at dvc for 13 trips since we joined in 1994, most at OKw(1x at BCV and 1x at BWV).

Thanks Connears.

It sounds like if I conference in for reservation with DVC and have them give me a deposit it works pretty smoothly. If I recall, we can cancel a reservation with DVC 30 days or later, is that correct?

Excellent advice! -- possibly my new DVC mantra!

I second what Maistre Gracey said! :teeth: We just used our points to stay 3 nights are the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami and than 4 nights at our "home resort" BCV just two weeks ago.::yes:: Use your points as you want, not as some people who own DVC say you should!! Next year for my 40th. birthday we too will be staying at the Poly concierge.:earsboy:

We stayed Poly Lagoon View Concierge on points before and to us, it was worth every point! Nothing like falling asleep with the castle changing colors before your sleepy eyes.... ::::sigh::::

We are also using some of our DVC points for AKL Deluxe Savannah view - as long as we are getting at least $6.10 or so per point versus cash we get good value from using our points

thanks
