Have any of you done this? Do you feel that it is not a good use of your points?

Just curious :) . We would love to visit DL during the big 50th celebration. Hopefully we will own DVC soon. Just trying to figure out if this would be a good use of our points in the future.

Thanks!

We did it this past April for a 4 night stay at the Grand Californian. Good use of points? Maybe, maybe not, but we did not have to pay out any $ for our room and I liked that.

 Good point! LOL! We would probably only stay for about 4 nights, non-weekend. I looked at the points chart and although it's high (we're looking at DL Hotel), it's not astronomical. I just thought I had read somewhere that using points for DL and WDW resorts didn't make that much sense. But like you said, if you don't have to outlay the cash.....that's a good thing!

Thanks!

Depends on when you go. We are from Cali., about 3 1/2 hours from Dis. If you look hard enough you can usually get really good deals that would make it unreasonable to use points. the DL hotel is our favorite. For example, right now Expedia is offering the fourth night free and even the other nights are really discounted. So look around first before booking.

Hi! Just booked a week for March '05 didn't think it was a bad deal considering the prices I found for DLH were upwards of $200.00.for a standard parking lot view.

Also, when I called MS they stated that they have evened out the points between weekends and weekday stays. So every night we are staying is 35 pts/night for a high pool view including Friday and Sat. :earseek:

now hold on a minute. Are they going to put this new "evened out" point schedule on the web site?

I don't know. MS did not have any information in regards to updating point charts. I made the resv 2 weeks ago so this may have changed

I was concerned about the timeframe that we wanted to go and could not find any information on 2005 point chart(maybe I thought they were not accepting resv in '05 because of DL 50 celebration, but this was not the case). So I called MS.

So if you are interested in going in '05 give MS a call, they were very helpful and had the point values for all 3 resorts and room types.

Hope this helps

I just did this in July for a weeknight stay at the Grand Californian... I do think it was a wonderful use of our points! AP rates and discounts at the time weren't that great and I admit I loved having a $0 balance when we checked out :teeth:

We live in Vegas and I do not think it is that great a deal at certain times of the year. For example, last year my friend that also owns DVC stayed at the Disneyland hotel. I go to Disneyland alot because we are only about 4 hours away. In October, I got DL hotel on Expedia for $129 a night for 4 nights. With tax, it came to almost $650.00. She used points for her 4 nights and "paid" 93 points. If she would have rented these out, she would have made $930.00 going by the $10 per point going rate. So she paid about $300 more for the same room as me for the same nights by using points. Not a very good investment, that could have paid for her park hoppers! Good luck whatever you decide, but I would rent and pay cash. Shop around, the 4 nights for 3 is a great deal!

I think that it depends on what time of the year that you are going. We used points for the GC 2 years ago during Easter week. The cost for a standard room was $285 a night. This was with the now gone Disney club discount. Since we only had 150 pts. at the time, we decided to use pts. for 2 nights (64) and pay cash for the other 2 nights. We felt that this was a great use of points. I guess that we lonk at the whole renting issue differently. To us using points is $$ tht you are not putting out.

Just some info. I'd choose Paradise Pier over Disneyland hotel. Great new slide, quick entrance into California Adventure.

I'd also not pay extra for a view.

We have done both. We love the GC and had 5 stays there since 2001. We used points once and paid cash for the others. We tend use our points up at WDW but if you have points to use then it is never a bad deal. It just depends on how you want to use them. I just called yesterday for two stays at the GC next year. One in May and the theme park views with an AP discount were $335/night. This is during the week. I also need one night before our cruise in August and the price was $365/night. These prices are before taxes and again with an AP discount. I couldn't believe how much they had gone up. Even PP was $270/night which I thought was outrageous. They are sure cashing in on the 50th celebration.

you know, I was thinking about them evening out the weekends and weekdays points. I wouldn't mind if they did that at wdw for our dvc properties, if they evened it out a bit. But I don't think it is good for me to do that at disneyland - I don't want to go to disneyland on a weekend anyway! Too busy! I'd rather have the points cheaper on the weekdays than evened out. I wonder if they are responding to booking patterns.
