I kind of figured out how many points it would "cost" us to take a trip to Disneyland in June staying at the Grand Californian. By my calculations (going on the current point value), it would be 216 points for a Sat-Sat stay. Since we probably won't be going to WDW for the remainder of 07 because DH won't be in the country, I would be banking my 07 points and booking a DL trip for 08.

Do you think it's worth it to use points for a DL stay? Or am I better off renting my points and paying cash for the reservation? What would you do? How many people use points to go to DL? Any advice appreciated.

Use your points - do you really want to go through the time and effort it will take to make reservations for others? Have you rented before? If not, you may be surprised at how much time and work it will entail.

What is the cash price for your GC stay? Since DVC reduced the points required to stay in the Californai DL resorts, it really isn't all that bad of a deal. We used points to stay at the DL Hotel in March 2006. Even if we valued our points at $10 each, we were slightly ahead of the game when you figured the tax on the cash rates.

My answer would be different if you were a non-member looking to buy in with the idea of regulalry using your points outside of the DVC resorts. But you already have the points - enjoy the trip.

I'd suggest using your points. We went last summer and stayed at the GCH and after I compared the cash rate for the room vs. the points (using $10 pp) the difference was minimal. So, not worth the hassle of renting out the points to raise the cash. JMO and YMMV...I'd say look at the numbers and decide where the tipping point is for you.

BTW, we loved the GCH and feel it was worth every point we spent!

Thank you both for your answers. I don't really know at this point what the cost of the cash stay would be, but our stay this past August at the Grand Californian was over $3,000. I don't really want the hassle of renting points if I don't have to -- especially since I've never done it before. We'll probably wind up using the points for the trip. It's not something we'd do often, but since we probably wouldn't be using our points to go back to WDW in 07 I'd rather use them than lose them.

Thanks again for the input! It's much appreciated.

We are using DVC points to stay at DLH, checking in tomorrow, and it was as easy of a process of booking a DVC resort. Although some argue it isn't the "Best" use of points, it worked for us.

We just returned from a trip to DL a couple of weeks ago. We used points and stayed at the GCH. It was fantastic and worked out great for us. My DH was in Anaheim for a convention. We spent the first part of the week at PPH. It was reallly nice. We had a 1 BR suite. Then we moved over to the GCH for our "vacation". I would highly recommend both hotels.

I have to agree with the others..... not worth the hassle for a minimum difference in the $$. We went to DL last summer and stayed at Paradise Pier.
While I liked the hotel, I have already decided that the next time it will be Grand Californian.
Great location with direct access to California Adventure.
