I read on one of these forums that you can use your points at other Disney hotels. Is this true? How many points do the various hotels cost? I am about to take the plunge and it was one of my remaining questions.

Yes you can but it is a better use of points to stay at DVC resort in my opinion plus in a studio you get the advantage of a frig and microware etc.

I'm new to this, but I've already read a ton of posts that say it's better to sell your points and use the cash than it is to use your points at non-DVC resorts. You might try a search and find older posts that get into this issue.

Yes you can. I am doing it this year. I am using 200 points to stay Sun-Thurs at the Contemporary in the Tower. Last year it only cost me 108 points to stay in a one bedroom during the same time at SSR.

I plan on transferring my points if I ever want to stay at a non-DVC resort again.

You can use your points at many, but not all resorts. There are a few times and circumstances where there is little to no "point penalty." For example, in the summer it can be little to no difference to stay in a wilderness cabin v. a 2BR. Yes the cabin is smaller, but it also comes with daily maid service. For the most part, it is better to use points for your DVC resorts v. Disney resorts. But the ability to use points elsewhere can be a nice alternative for a last-minute trip.
