Using points at DL

We are looking at moving to California temporarily for about 3 years for my husbands employment. Thus, we would like to use our points at DL. We know about VGC but I know that they can be a little difficult to get into. I believe we might want to do some quickly planned trips. Can we still use our points at the DLH and if so are there restrictions? I guess I am wondering can I call a month ahead and if they have rooms available can we use our points for those rooms? Thanks so much for any help.

Currently, you can use your DVC points at the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier. As with any request, if the room is available, you have the reservation.

We just booked a 2 bdrm for 5 nights at VGC for March with no problem. We have stayed there before and LOVE IT! The entrance to the park is great as well as to Downtown Disney. I think if you stay at Paradise or DH that you don't get near as much for your points. Good luck with your move!
