Using points at a WDW resort

How far out can you book a reservation at a WDW resort? 7 months? 11 months? If anyone has done this, how does this work?

11 months if you own points at the resort, 7 if you own points at another DVC resort.

If you are referring to DVC resorts it is 11 months at home resort, 7 at others. If you are referring to non-DVC resorts, I am not sure there is a stated limit and you can do it 11 months out subject to an annual problem. The points needed for those resorts change annually and they usually don't release the point charts for an upcoming year until sometime in the summer before the year begins.

you would also pay a $95 fee for exchanging out of the DVC system (and another $95 if you make any changes to the reservation.)

I've attached some additional information regarding Disney Collection bookings from the member web site. Note the reference to the "Rule of Four." This states that you cannot book and travel within the last four months of your use year. (Confusing? You can travel to a Disney Collection destination in the last four months of your use year, but what the rule is saying is that you must have made the booking within the first 8 months of your use year.)

There are also restrictions now for DVC contracts purchased via the secondary resale market. Members who purchased a contract via resale after 03/20/2011 may not use those points for the Disney Collection.
