Hi Viv,
Invest in a Tracfone from Walmart

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=232632&redirect_query=tracfone

Its a US pay as you go phone, which you can top up when you are there!
A bonus is, you can phone the UK from it too. A great benefit with the time differences. You can phone home, walking round the parks! No going to find a pay phone etc.
We have two of them, so we can phone each other as well.
See what you think!

Tracy

As far as I know, if you are dialling a local number from an in-room phone at WDW, the call is free :)

I know we called friends at another (non-Disney) hotel when we were in WDW and we didn't get charged for the call :thumbsup2

Hi :wave2:

We've stayed at POFQ twice and love it there. If you need a taxi from any resort just go to the bell services desk and they'll get you one no problem. We got taxi's to The Boardwalk several times it was only about $7 and 5 minutes-not worth taking 2 buses to get there;) We got taxi's to CR for CG as well, it was about $12 i think not much more. Next week we are at CSR and are planning to do the same, the bus is great during the day but if you have ADR's to get too it's sometimes worth the taxi fare.

On mobiles both mine and DH are supposed to work internationally and have both worked in several places ( Cuba, Mexico and Europe) but mine would not work in Orlando- don't know why:confused: Dh's did so we used it to call home a couple of times. Got to say i love the thought of turning it off at the airport and not turning it back on until i come home though. Then i can really escape.:thumbsup2
Have a great trip :goodvibes

Thanks for that, I feel the same way about phoning home a postcard will do lol
I think we will be using bell services to book taxis for our ADR's and also at end of MNSSHP we intend to get mono to Contemporary and get a taxi from there can you get taxis after midnight ?

Both my wife and I have quad band phones, but we also have a couple of Tracfones we use in the USA.

Whilst "local" calls are free, the local area can be very small and you can get caught out with high call charges.

The Tracfones can receive and send international calls at a very good rate, plus they mean we can make person to person calls without having the high back to Uk and out again costs of our quads.

But then again, we do not spendall our time at WDW, so they are very useful for meeting up, ordering food deliveries, taxis, booking other things etc etc, plus the comfort of having a always connected phone

Your Tri or Quads may not work in some areas, depending upon who your UK provider is partnered with and their coverage.

Can u buy them at Publix thats the only place we are going to offsite when we get picked up from Sanford ?

If you are not going offsite, consider buying a Virgin 'pay as you go' mobile and top-up cards at Virgin Megastore Downtown Disney. You can also buy top-up cards at Hess Service Stations. (There is one walking distance from Boardwalk).

Trac phone is brilliant. Mine cost $14.99 from publix and I used $20 worth of vouchers while I was there.

hi

we went 6 years ago and triband was not avail on many phones, we took my parents with us, so to keep intouch we hired a phone from carphonewarehouse and the calls that we made (very few) cost us a small fortune. so i would say perhaps by a payg phone whilst there would probably work out the cheapest.

Yes you can get taxi's after MD. We plan on doing the same Sept 30th MNSSHP- Monorail to the CR and drinks in the outer rim lounge (depending on the time) and taxi back to CSR- great minds think alike:thumbsup2

I was thinking of buying a couple of these phones in advance, mainly to keep track of my teenage daughter in the park - and DH and DD when they go to DisneyQuest and I don't want to!:rolleyes1 Our walkie talkies didn't work terribly well last time - especially in Epcot, for some reason. Has anyone purchased these on-line?
