This may be a flame- worthy information request but here it goes. Disney has done a horrible job with excursion offerings on our Europe cruise. I’m thinking of starting a Disney excursion and participating where they take us , but getting back to the ship on our own and spending more time (it’s literally a 30 min Uber with additional reliable train options available). Other than running the risk of missing the ship (which anyone on a private excursion takes), is there anything else that needs to be done? Is there some waiver to sign stating we take responsibility for getting back on our own ? Has anyone done this and what is your experience?

Thank you

You certainly can leave an excursion at any point, as long as you're aware it's on you to get back to the ship. I've done it a couple of times. It's also important to let the guide know you're going to do that, otherwise they're going to waste time looking for you when you leave.

We didn't have to sign a waiver (at that time). Don't know if you do now, but I would doubt it.

We have left excursions often especially if they stop at some shopping experience we are not interested in. Be sure to let bus driver or tour guide know so they aren’t looking for you. But just remember it’s on you to get back to ship whether walking or taking a taxi.

Thanks for the feedback

I've been on many excursions where they'll say something like, "We're going back to the ship, but if you want to stay back on your own, just make sure you're back at the ship by X time." I would even go as far as to say MOST of the excursions I've done in Europe have ended that way (especially walking ones).

The exception would be the full day excursions when you're out pretty much from arrival to departure.

Just to add a little food for thought. I don't know exactly what excursions you're referring to but you can go on your own just make sure you have a back up plan. Occasionally some of the excursions I've been on take out to the middle of no where so finding transportation back could take a while. Just let the guide know you're leaving if you do it.

Good advice thanks but this will be in the Netherlands - multiple transportation options
