Good morning! Does anyone have firsthand experience purchasing a DVC-discounted AP with the use of an old ticket? Specifically, we will be taking advantage of the Free Dining in August, and we purchased one day hopper's for the trip. We have no need for the ticket this trip as we have current AP valid through November. That said, I'd like to purchase new AP vouchers during our trip in October (not the renewals though cuz next trip isn't planned until May) and avoid the 2007 price hike, take advantage of DVC discount, and use the $134.20 value of the two hoppers. Advise?

Disney basically gives the original price actually paid for the ticket toward the cost of a new ticket.

They do not give the value of the current price of the old ticket

Thus if you purchased a ticket a few years ago for $50, but today that same ticket would be $60, they will only give you the $50 as credit toward another ticket.

Caskbill - can I use the 2 days I have left on a 7 day ticket as credit toward a DVC annual pass? :confused3

One concern that I have that I'm unable to get an answer to is whether the AP issued at a Guest Relations desk using the unused hopper day will be activated upon issue or more like a voucher in that I can activate it at a later date. I would prefer to go ahead and get rid of the hopper's on our room keys, buy the AP, but not activate until next May.

Hmm, can't answer that one for sure. I should think you could get it applied to a voucher. You'd be basically locking in the price of the ticket, a win for you, and Disney gets the use of your money for free until you exchange the voucher, a win for them. Don't see how it'd be any different than just getting a voucher and paying cash.

GR will issue you a valid active AP. (They don't do vouchers - no need for them to do so). If you want to use the 1 day ticket towards the purchase of an AP in the future, just keep your room key until you are ready to have an active AP.

You might ask the CM at check in if you could have a "paper" ticket. Maybe they don't have to put it on your room key. Not sure it makes any difference though - either way you have to keep track of something untuil you are ready to turn it in for the AP.

Best w ishes -

Activated ticket, if you don't want it activated, wait till later to get the AP.

Did it at DL with no problem. They credited full value of what I had against the DVC discounted price.

I just tried to do this in early July for our August trip. I have one day tickets we bought in January so we could get the DDP. I wanted to use the credit from those tickets to purchase an AP with our DVC discount. I went to GR in DTD and was told that if I purchased the AP at that time, it would be activted at the same time due to using the credit fromt he one day tickets. Since we are planning another early August trip next year, we are waitng to purchase the APs on arrival day. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much guys. I was thinking that it would be an activated pass. So much for trying to save some $$. And, quite honestly, I just hate hanging on to unused tickets since you have nothing to "prove" the value. But, not the end of the world, for sure!
