Using Old Magic Bands- 2015 16- battery life?

I could be wrong, but I think everything (magic bands, tickets) in your MDE account shows as "active," no matter how old it us, until you go into your account and de-activate it.

Correct for MBs.
Not correct for fully used tickets (if they are showing, it's a GLITCH.)

I have bands from 2014 I just used in January...
I did notice our names came up at the end of IASW. No idea if that requires the transmitter or not, but if it does, it was still working.

Anything that does NOT require guest to touch the MB to a reader uses the battery transmitter section.
So, the IASW exit screens DO use the battery transmitter section.

Well maybe I just got lucky, but it looks like all my 2014 bands still work, and those were from January of 2014 too.

I have no doubt that there are at least some older MBs that have batteries that still work.
The MBs were originally spec'ed for batteries that were to last for about 3 years.
That would mean that there would be some MBs (under certain conditions) that would have
batteries that lasted even longer than that.

This is why I like having a 2.0 puck on a key fob attached to my bag. Even if I’m wearing one of my 1.0 decorated ones, I don’t have to stress getting pictures and videos.

If at least one person in my party has a new band and we are all going on the same rides, I shouldn't have to worry about the battery being dead in my band for photos right?
And its only long distance photos, not the ones CM's take that can be an issue?

1. Right.
2. Yup.

The battery issue has been correctly addressed.

But, a point of order in the above statement.
No tickets (or anything else) are ever "added to" a MagicBand.

The MBs are simply a digital "key" that accesses items that are in a
guest's MyDisneyExperience file.
The MB digitally allows the system to "call up" the guest's file, and any tickets or FP+ info (etc.) in that file can be used at that time.

This is why a guest can have multiple MBs (old, new, decorated, etc.) in his name and each can be used to call up the same ticket and file information.

Yes- I should have used the word "link" instead of added.

Resurrecting this thread: thinking about buying an Epcot 35 MB 2.0 on Ebay for a trip in November. When does the battery activate? Is it transmitting from the moment the band is made, or does it start working after first use? Does this question make sense?

1. When does the battery activate?
2. Is it transmitting from the moment the band is made,
3. or does it start working after first use?

1. A MB's battery is activate when the MB was built.
2. Yes.
3. Nope.

However, it MIGHT be that the MB transmitter does not "run" all the time.
It might be that the MB must be in an area that has the appropriate RF
signal being sent out (the particular ride has a transmitter of its own?)
and, if so, THAT triggers the MB transmitter to, well, transmit
only in that area.
That would mean that the MB battery would likely just die of "old age" (shelf life)
rather than run down due to use.
