We are 3 weeks away from our WDW vacation and I just bought an updated guidebook since our most recent one was from 1997. I read in this book that while the days do not expire (which I already knew) they are not transferrable (also already knew), but they added that now you have to register a fingerprint at guest services before you use hopper passes and then when use them at the gates there is fingerprint scanner to identify you as the proper person for the hopper pass. My question is for unused days on old passes are we going to have to visit guest services first for fingerprint registration since they did not do this when we originally purchased these hopper passes several years ago?

Ah, not so. Only annuals and a very few other passes need you to have a bio scan (not fingerprints).
Not sure what book you have, but, it gave you some very bad info.
For info on tickets, go to : http://allearsnet.com/pl/fingerscan.htm

NO, they DO NOT fingerprint you. Please, read the link I supplied.

Sorry Gail. We must have responded at the same time because I didn't see your post there. So, after reading the linked article, I think I understand that bioscans are only for AP holders and seasonal pass holders. Is that right?

If you're staying at one of the DVC resorts, guest services at the hotel can help you. We had park hoppers from a few years ago but didn't know exactly how many days were left. Guest services at OKW was very helpful in telling us how many days were left on each ticket. New park hoppers were not issued. We just used the old ones until the number of remaining days was gone.

Ali,
I am so sorry if I came across in a cross manner. And, you should not have been receiving my bad temper. Not that this is an excuse, but I am so tired of these books giving out this horrible information. People, naturally, post this misinformation, (nothing wrong with that), but it sets off a panic mode.
Again, I am sorry and I hope you can accept my apology.

Yes, the bio scan is for AP and a few other passes. Not for park hoppers.

Adult FL Res Play 4 days passes also use the finger scan.

Let's make this simple. This is what requires a bio scan.

What admission media require the use of finger scans?

All WDW annual passes, Florida resident's annual, seasonal and specialty passes ("Play-4-Days", etc.) and other selected admission media such as extended admission passes sold in select European and Asian markets.
