Using non-expiring old Water Park Fun & More tickets

I'm planning to return to WDW next summer and am determining what type of ticket to buy (e.g. whether to pay the extra $$ to add on water parks). We do want some water park days on this trip. I have old non-expiring tickets with a LOT of water park days on them (and even some VERY old mini golf tickets) BUT I don't want them added to the Magic Bands I'll be using for this trip because everything else for this trip will be one-time only (expiring).

Can I use these without adding them to my magic band for next year's trip?

You should be able to exchange your old paper tickets for the plastic tickets with the magnetic strip. There is no need to add them to your MDE. We did this at our resort a couple of years ago. It was easy to do.

I tried that last year and they HAD to put them on my band. I was not happy.

I wonder if that is new. We went in summer 2013 (while MB were still in test mode) and I was able to convert all my old tickets to new RFID cards, which I will be using for the WP options. What if you were an off-site guest and needed to convert to RFID tickets? You wouldn't have a magic band. We converted ours at Guest Services at Epcot.

I took some older paper type tickets to Guest Services at Downtown Disney last December (2014) to ask what entitlements were remaining. I thought there were still Water Park and Miniature Golf entitlements. I did NOT have to link them to an MDE account, and they still aren't, but I did have to have them converted to RFID cards.

We weren't able to do this at our hotel due to the age of the tickets. Only Guest Services at Downtown Disney or one of the parks could check.

As an aside, I'm still fuzzy on the how and why but the miniature golf entitlements, even though we had never used them, were no longer valid. You might want to stop by a Guest Services location and ask about yours before you venture to the mini golf locations.

We went to TL last week. I brought our old water park tickets to the ticket window at TL and they converted them into proper plastic tickets and we were good to go.

You got an untrained (or uncooperative) CM.
Stories of these "vigilante" ticket CMs are legion on these boards.

The miniature golf coupons you get with your resort room package are not tickets themselves. They would not be valid after you completed that package and went home, unless the resort check in CM forgot to write the expiration date on them. (None come with room only reservations.)

Water park fun remaining on non-expiring tickets can still be used for miniature golf, I think before 4:30 PM. One fun entitlement for one round of golf.

We had very old tickets (2008) and went to get them put on rfid at DHS. No issues whatsoever. You'll be fine!

Edited to add, this was done in July this year...

You can trade them in for an RFID card (there are no magnetic strips anymore). You don't add anything to your band; you add it to your MDE account. Don't do that.

Tell them you don't have a band. What are they going to do?

Why would you not want them added to the band? I mean, if they never expire... I'd still get an upgraded ticket tho because those bands can go wonky and die eventually. Is that the reason?

Not even that:
A. There is no ticket info put ONTO the MagicBands, so if (IF) the MB goes wonky, the guest can stop by a ticket booth and get a card ticket at any time.

B. For the purposes of accessing tickets, the MB won't really die. That part of the MB does not use batteries.

I just did it last Wednesday at DTD Guest Service. I didn't wear my MagicBand. I said to the greeter that I want to exchange my old tickets to the new one. He took my name and waited a few minutes for the next CM. No question asked about MDE.

It was more painful to prioritize the package tickets in my MDE. I thought I could do it by myself for everyone in my MDE, but the CM would only see my child's ticket and not my sister. I had to call my sister over with her MagicBand to prioritize the tickets.
