using marriott free nights and or points

We are platinum marriott...our last points trip we booked the Marriott Newport Coast Villas and went to DLR from there. Ocean view, granite counter tops and close to Laguna beach. It was wonderful!!! A very memorable trip.

I got an offer from Marriott to go there for a special 3 night trip for something like $250. I think they were trying to sell the timeshare. No timeshare presentation was required, however, for the deal. We didn't go since I was afraid there would be fine print.

We love that place and did DL as well. Originally DVC owned that land and had a resort planned. I think it was to be a venetian theme, but you can look it up for sure. They backed out and sold the land to Marriott.

Depending on if you travel other places, you may be better off using your points at somewhere OTHER than Disney. Their reward level is actually pretty high (such as at the Lake Buena Vista Springhill/Courtyard/Fairfield). For us it was a better value to use the points near St. Louis & pay a discounted rate we found at LBV for our room. We saved about half our points that way.

So shop smart & try to pick a chain such as Fairfield or Springhill where you receive a continental breakfast also - helps increase your value.
