Using Internet abroad: data plan or mifi?

Hi all. I'm trying to figure out the best way possible to use the Internet abroad on my iphone during our trip in October/ November. In addition to travelling to WDW, we will also be headed to New York and Miami so I don't think it will be possible just to rely on wifi to get by. Plus I've heard the WDW wifi isn't worth using.

In the past, I have paid for expensive data plan from 02 but £120 for 200mb seems like a bad deal this time around. :lmao: I have been looking into buying a mifi with an US sim to use from a site called dataroam with is £89 for 5Gb of data, which seems a lot more reasonable. :thumbsup2 Has anyone used this site before or can anyone recommend a better value data plan or mifi for a locked iphone?

Ideally, I'd like something that can be used multiple times and in different countries as we are travelling to Japan next year.

Thanks.

Mel

I have looked at this also, knowing that the WDW parks have Wifi is fantastic and will be fine for half the time I am in Florida.

I was looking at a website holidayphone.co.uk (sorry post count to low to post urls :( ). They seem to be able to give you a sim for your phone and can forward calls from your UK mobile number to it (you get an hours free). Voice calls look very well priced but data isn't so great.. and that is what we all need is the data. I am guessing you get buy more data if you need it.

In short I think almost any solution is better than paying a fortune to o2..

I always buy an AT&T sim from ebay for around £7 then buy a $50 credit from Pinzoo which is great as they email the top up code so you don't need to a) wait until you're there or b) find a store or speak to AT&T.

If you have a iPhone, your imei number won't work when activating the sim card but importantly the iPhone will, you just need to borrow an imei from a non Apple phone. Using all 1s used to work for the imei stage but I don't know if it still does.

With that $50 credit on your account, you need the $25 monthly plan and buy a 25$ 1GB data bolt on. Admittedly I don't use the US number so that first $25 is a waste but £40 in total for 1GB data is pretty good and a lot better than the plans UK providers will give you abroad.

I believe T-mobile USA can be used more cheaply than this but I can't vouch for it as I've only done the above (on three occasions now).

Sorry, only just saw the locked iphone bit. Still £20 to get unlocked and your phone is worth more when you sell it.
