I heard you can use a deluxe resort hotels gym for a fee if you are not staying there. Is this true and if so how much?

Yeah, in the gym descriptions on Disney's site, it still says that non-guests can use the gyms for a $12 fee.

Edit: oh rats...

I called up a couple of different gyms on Disney property (Yacht Club and Saratoga Springs) and they both said that they no longer sell access to guests from other resorts. You have to be staying at those resorts.

This is apparently a change from the previous policies. Lynne, have you found an exception? I'm still hoping for one!

while i understand gym access is a perk of a deluxe hotel, i would think by now disney would have a gym available to all guests, even if there was a fee, ie weekly or day to day memberships.

It's honestly hard to say who's right here....the site, or the person you spoke with on the phone. There's a very good chance you were speaking to a call center, and they're not known for having reliable information.

What I would do in your situation, I think, would be to find a gym description on Disney's site that mentions the $12 fee for non-guests, print that out and take it with me to that gym. I could be wrong, but I think they'd be less likely to turn you away if you had a copy of the policy from the web site.

If all else fails, stop at the Guest Services desk at your resort and ask for a gym recommendation. There are plenty of gyms in the surrounding area, and the guest services folks should have a list of gyms that offer day passes and aren't too far away by cab.

Why???
Deluxe amenities are factored into nightly rates deluxe guests pay. I would imagine building an onsite gym would make the daily/weekly fee prohibitive. Anyone is able to book the reservations which include a gym

I might be out of luck on the Disney website. I've checked all of the gyms and it appears that they've removed the language about getting in for $12.00. This seems to match what the CMs are telling me on the phone. I like your idea about asking for local gym recommendations.

Totally agree. I has originally looking at the Coronado but it's booked up during my stay. The deluxes are running at $245-$279 per night which exceeds my budget. They're nice resorts, but I think I'll save them for a later time in my life when I've made more money. It would be a bad use of money if I'm doing it only for a gym.

Ironically, the Dolphin might be my best bet without leaving property. It's running around $200 and has a deluxe location, and apparently a good health club. I might do a split stay so I can keep up on my routine for half of the vacation.

I disagree. I think in this day and age a basic gym (treadmill, elliptical, a few free weights) is a standard amenity. I mean Hampton Inns and even most bargain hotels (I certainly have stayed at LaQuintas that have them) have them but Disney moderates don't. And in comparison with Universal, CBBR has probably the best gym I've seen at a hotel and it's there "value." It also would go along with Disney's promotion of healthy living and the runDisney/ESPN brand.
