Using gift cards to pay for room

I've searched unsuccessfully for tips on paying for my room balance with Disney gift cards. Can someone either direct me to a thread or give me the run down on how this works? In spite of going to WDW since it opened this will be the first time I'm using GCs to pay. FYI I have 2 rooms for 2 nights. The first night of each room is paid for so I'm just looking to pay the balance. As always your help is greatly appreciated.

I believe that if your reservations are room-only, not a package, that you have to call the Disney resort reservations line to pay your balance in advance of checkin. Otherwise, it will be charged to the credit card on file in the very early morning of checkin day. You can get that reversed, but it takes some time at the front desk.

If your rooms are part of a package, I believe you can pay online.

I prefer to let them charge my cc on file and then when I arrive I go to the front desk and say I want to pay with a gc. They refund the charge to my cc and charge my GCs instead. I find it less of a hassle than calling and I don’t mind having that amount of credit limit tied up.

For prepayment before you Check in date:

If you have a package you can find a link directly in the MDE app to pay your outstanding balance. Once you have signed in to My Disney Experience, open My Plans and then scroll down to My Plans, Reservations and Tickets. There you will be able to see all of your reservation details including the remaining balance. Right beside the balance will be a link to make a payment.

If you have a Room Only (RO) reservation you need to call (407) 939-7630 or (407) 939-1936 during normal call center hours. Just let the CM know you want to pay your room balance and off you go.

Make sure that you keep any Gift Cards used just in case you need a credit back for any reason.

Thank you one and all. It is a room only ressie. I like the call ahead method. My gift card balance may not fully cover the charges but I assume they'll charge the balance to my credit card. It's our first time at BWI. We always opted for YC when staying in the Epcot area. It will be fun to have a new experience.
