Sorry if this is a silly question, I tried the search but endless results populated for "dvc gift card"... forgive me in advance. :goodvibes

I'm wondering if you can use Disney gift card to pay for DVC. Obviously not ENTIRELY, but either as a partial or down payment. The reason is, we are registered through the Disney honeymoon registry and from what I understand, all the money we get, gets put onto a Disney gift card for use towards resort stays, tickets, etc.

Are we able to put that towards the purchase of DVC? We are thinking that since we are going to be buying in already, why not use the money from the honeymoon towards it, and use the points towards the honeymoon!

And if we can't use gift cards toward the actual purchase, are we allowed to use them toward maintenance fees?

Thanks!

Yes and yes. A Disney gift card is accepted just like a credit card.

You can use Disney gift cards towards annual dues, so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to use them towards a DVC membership.

BTW -- What a great idea for a gift registry!

I agree, Disney honeymoon registry, a brilliant idea! Now, using that money towards DVC purchase and annual dues, good planning!

As others have stated, you can use a gift card to pay your maintenance fees.

However, you actually cannot use a gift card toward the membership costs, i.e. original purchase of points or even a deposit.

I know because I just went through it this week. We had a trip booked for early Feb, the majority paid for with gift cards. We decided to take the DVC plunge and apply the money we already paid for our rooms towards the DVC membership and just stay the same week with points. It turns out we could not do that.

I have also run into all other kinds of problems getting the money back so that I can use it to pay for my park tickets and dining plan, but that is a another story.

In addition, there are also some quirks that arise when using gift cards to pay for your park passes when ordered with your DVC reservation. For some reason DVC can only accept two forms of payment to pay for a pass (with each individual gift card counting as a single form of payment). This could be a problem, for example, if you had multiple $100 gift cards (in that case you could only use one per pass and would have to pay the remainder with your second form of payment, presumably a credit card).

My point is, though, you cannot use gift cards to pay for your membership - at least I was not allowed.

Oh wow, that was very informative! Thank you. I was somewhat hoping that everyone else was right, but my gut instinct told me what you just said.

It's just a bummer to have over $5,000 in Disney gift cards and we can't use it towards our DVC purchase! Oh well, not like we can't find other things to spend it on. :lmao:

Glad to help!!

By all means, feel free to call to ask a guide. Maybe they could get it to work for you. I would be happy to pass along my guide info. She has burned up the lines for me trying to get my situation worked out, taking to everyone from reservation managers to accounting folks, etc.

We have had an unexpectedly frustrating time applying the funds from our resort reservations towards the DVC trip, with the lack of being able to use the gift cards towards membership the least of it!!

If you have any other questions on the limitations of using your gift cards through dvc let me know - I'd be happy to help where I can!

Good luck!!
