We will be staying at one of the value resorts in September, my parents will be accompanying my ds and myself. My mom must eat breakfast with her meds in the a.m. and it has to be more than a granola bar etc.

I have heard many of you talk about bringing your own bagels/bread and using the toaster in the food court or throwing something in the microwave. Is this really okay? I always thought they were for the food purchased in the food court. I don't want to bring a toaster to our room--and if I did I certainly wouldn't admit here!!:p It would save alot of money, we will be 5 adults and 2 kids in total, if we could do this. I assume a styrofoam coller in the room would be good enough to keep cream cheese and butter cool throughout the day....refilling it with resort ice daily.

For those that do this do you use your own utensils or "borrow" from the food court?

I have stayed at the All-Star resorts for several years and I always take my own breakfast foods. I have used their toasters for my bagels and Poptarts with no problems.
I also have brought cereal and bought the milk from the store at the resort. I bring my own plastic bowls to use.

I have used their plasticware in the past because I always buy snacks and food at lunch and/or dinner from the food court and don't always use the plasticware, so I pick up extra to use for breakfast.

I also have brought my own popcorn and used the microwave in the foodcourt. No one has ever said anything to me or anyone else who was using those appliances. They are there for everyone to use. I'm sure you will be buying snacks and ice cream just as I did.

I have used a cooler, refilling it each morning with ice from the ice machines. On my last trip, I invested in a Coleman cooler that you plug in and it keeps the food cool without ice.

Thank you for the reply.....that is definitely what we will be doing. I have a cooler that plugs in but it is too big to take on the flight. We'll probably make due with the styrofoam cooler....although we may get a fridge because some of my Mom's meds need to be refridgerated. $10/day would be worth making sure her meds are kept at proper temp's.

I believe that if you need a fridge for medical reasons, Disney provides one free of charge if you tell them it is for medical reasons. I did this when one of my kids was on an antibiotic one trip.

Just tell them at checkin. HTH

Disney has cut back on the "free fridge" for medical reasons. I have heard of several people only gettin a shoebox size fridge for meds. I think the problem is people abused the "free fridge" with non existent conditons which is why they are buying these baby things that not much will fit in.

Now that we need to have a frig for my sons insulin....I did wonder why they don't just give you the little plug in shoe box size frig..???? That said in Dec at the POP and Dolphin we got the dorm size frig and yes we did add extras after we secured room for my sons insulin:smooth: :smooth:

(insulin really donesn't take up much space)
