Using expiring points on a reservation that straddles use year

Hi all,

I have a renter using some of my points for 2 studio rooms at end of June. A portion of those points were banked from 2018 into this year (December UY) If Disney cancels the June reservations the renter may want to try to reschedule to the week around Thanksgiving or week after (and yes, he is aware there will be very limited resort options, possibly Saratoga?).

My question is this: If I find a reservation for him beginning in late November for the 2 studio rooms - can the banked points be used for those first few days (Nov dates) for each reservation and my current use (bankable) points then be used for the rest of each reservation? I’ve just never had this situation before and I’m obviously trying to avoid me/him losing the 87 2018 banked points. Tks!

This is waht the email from DVC said in part:

"2018 Use Year points for April and June that were banked into 2019 and used for these reservations will be extended for six months from their current expiration date. Please note this temporary policy only includes expiring points that were used to book a stay between March 12 and the end of the closure period and that involve a reservation cancelled after February 29. "

December use year points were not included in this exception.

However, December use year points that were banked from 2018, are good for stays between 12/1/2019 and 11/30 2020. So YES, you can use those points to book a vacation in November of 2020, subject to availability. My advice is to reschedule asap as availability is going quickly, even at SSR.

Points must be used in their use year (or banked). A stay beginning in November would need to have the current use year points used before the night of December 1.

When you cross the UY, you need to make separate reservations for each time period.

Ah, this is what I was wanting to know. Thanks everyone, and sounds a bit complicated 😬

What will be even more interesting is that those of us who have UY’s after June are likely not going to find availability to use our banked points this year because room bookings are filling up. This fall is almost completely booked for studio rooms I believe (except for SS and Riviera maybe?)

So while folks point out that those of us with December UY still have 5 months to rebook, it isn’t going to work in practicality.

For me personally, we decided this week to move a large family trip from early November to end of next March. Just had too many unknowns and various family members uncomfortable. Feel lucky to have secured the BWV rooms I wanted for March a few days ago and here’s hoping things have settled down a bit by then. Time will tell!

But for my renter (who is also a DVC member) this June situation is certainly problematic.
