Using DVC Points at Port Orleans?

I read on the resort list that some rooms at PO can hold 5 people. I saw in my DVC book that we can use our points at PO. Next year, my sister wants to join us for two nights at WDW after our Disney Cruise. We don't have a lot of points left (borrowed this year and had planned to skip going to WDW next year).

If we stay at PO, I have enough points for Dec. 23 & 24th (the days we want to go after our Dec. 19 cruise).

When I call to make reservations, do I tell Member Services I need a room for 5 people? Is there going to be a problem getting a room for 5 there since I would be using points instead of cash? Anyone else do this before?

Thanks!

The rooms that can hold 5 have a trundle bed under one of the main double beds and it is about 5' long and suitable for a child - I believe these rooms are in the Alligator Bayou section

"What are the differences between Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou?

Magnolia Bend is themed as four 2- and 3-story mansion homes, reflecting the large plantation residences in Mississippi many decades ago. Here you'll find well kept lawns, wrought iron railings and trellises, crawling roses and an elegant motif. At any time you'd expect to see the Colonel and his wife greet you on the main lawn waiting to invite you in.

Another important feature to note about the mansions is the fact that you must cross the Sassagoula River bridges to get to the food court, gift shop and other main building features.

Alligator Bayou lodges are a more rustic, backwoods cottage setting, featuring 16 smaller two-story Cajun-style buildings with charmingly rustic wooden furniture and settings. In addition, the rooms in Alligator Bayou contain a trundle bed that will sleep a child bringing the room occupancy total to 5. The Trundle Bed is intended to accommodate children under 9; or persons under 5 feet tall. They are narrower than a conventional bed.

An important difference to note between the two sections are the lack of elevators in Alligator Bayou. If you are unwilling or unable to negotiate stairs but still prefer Alligator Bayou, be sure to inform the front desk at check-in, and they will do their best to accommodate you.

Though it rarely happens, it is suggested that if you find any aspect of your room to be inadequate, you contact the front desk and request nicely to be moved to a room that is what you wanted/expected. Disney is in the business of satisfying their guests, and they will almost always do everything in their power to make you happy."

Other than that, cannot help any further

Good luck

I expect it would be better to get a studio with a daybed like they have in some at BWV (I believe, check with MS) and perhaps other DVC resorts; the DVC units are bigger an they have that lovely kitchenette. The math is POR std view: 56 pts; POR water view: 62 pts, BWV std view: 47 pts; BWV pfd view: 55 pts. Check my math on this, but it seems that for POR both nites are peak season (1 Thu + 1 Fri) while at BWV, Thu 23rd is Choice and Fri 24th is Premier.

BWV wins overall in this case. Or better yet, get the weekend nite for cash, and rent the remaining points out (or save them). Or you could rent someone else's points on the rent/trade board, and upgrade...

Thanks for the info and the links to the pictures. I guess I thought it would be more like a 'daybed', but even so, my smaller daughter could use the trundle (can would probably get a kick out of it).

I must say, that I do 'feel' for those who have 5 in their family, we have 4 in ours (DH, me and our twin DDs) and so most hotel rooms work out just fine for us.

Now that I am looking towards next year with my sister joining us (putting us at 5 in our party), it certainly makes things more difficult.

The 2 bedroom DVC rooms would be great! But I just don't have the points (especially for Friday, Dec. 24).

Thanks again for the info!

Oh, I forgot there were daybeds at BWVs (we have never stayed there)! Thanks for the information! That would be much better. We would have enough points for those two nights at BWVs in a studio!

I just hope at 7 months they have one available! I am SO excited! This would be a great option! I can't wait to tell DH!

Thanks!

Why not post this on the rent trade boards? Maybe someone over there with BWV as their home resort could book a ressie in your name, and you could book a ressie at your home resort for them. That way you could use the 11/7 month window.

While you can request a BWV studio plus (with the daybed), it is only a request and cannot be guaranteed. You might still end up with a queen bed and sleep sofa only.

Good Luck with your decision! :)

Is bwv the only dvc resort that has a daybed, or can you request a daybed at the wlv or bcv, i understand it is not guarantee:scratchin :cool1:

That seems odd that they couldn't guarantee it if you tell them there will be 5 in the room. Do most of the studios have the daybed? Are there different 'designs' for the BWV studios?

I guess we can just 'chance' it and see what happens and hope for the best.

FWIW, the daybed in the BWV dedicated studios is quite small - smaller than the trundles in POR. Although it could be used as a bed for a small child, IMHO, it is quite hard as well as narrow. Rather than use it for a bed, I'd consider bringing an airmattress. Since you may not be a position to do that (considering all the luggage you may need for the cruise), my advice is to stcik with your original idea of staying at POR for the two nights your sister will be with you.

Enjoy your trip!
