Using DME from the UK

Hi another question or series of questions really! :)

Was reading in the main forums (not the UK section) about using DME and read that Disney don't send baggage tags internationally so what have people doe in the past from the UK when using the DME service?

If we don't get tags am I to collect my luggage on arriving at MCO from my flight (our flight arrives 4pm Orlando time) then head to the DME section of the airport and hand my bags to Disney? Surely if I have had to collect my own bags from on landing I am just as well to keep them with and and take them onto the ME with me or do they only allow passengers on the ME?

It's all rather confusing! having a blonde moment ( I did have hair once you know :rotfl2:)

First of all, are you arriving at MCO from the UK on a direct flight, or will you be coming in on a domestic US connection?

Assuming you have to clear immigration, you will do this first, then collect your bags, then go through customs. Once cleared through there, you head for the tram which is up a set of escalators. At the bottom of these escalators is a secondary baggage drop where you can (if you choose) drop your luggage and send it through to the other terminal OR you can take it up the escalators and keep it with you.

We do the latter. That second belt takes forever and then some to get your luggage to the next terminal.

Assuming you are on a domestic flight OR you can't manage your luggage up the escalator and / or want DME to collect it for you:

Domestic flight arrivals, you skip the above process entirely and your luggage will arrive at the terminal where DME is. If you want them to collect your bags regardless of what you do with them, keep the luggage bar code tags that you get with your boarding pass at check in and hand it over when you check in for DME and they will arrange for your bags to follow :)

Honestly, just collect your luggage and take it with you on ME (they carry the luggage under the coach if you take it with you) and then you have it as soon as you arrive at the resort. :thumbsup2

If you use the ME luggage service it can take upto 4 hours from resort check in to have your bags delivered.

Cheers for the replies, 2 Tiggies I'm on an international flight from the UK so will have the whole immigration, baggage claim, customs

Thanks for the orlando link! its now on my favourites ans to read and re read!

:thumbsup2

Elise79 this sounds like a plan to me as we would rather have our bags with us when we get to the resort! I don't mind pulling them along so this may be our option just so we know we have them on arrival as this will allow us to unpack and get organised for our first full day at MK :cheer2::cool1:

Another quick one, does the DME run to all resorts or just a selection? for example - 1 bus would cover resorts around MK, another bus would cover the resorts around Epcot etc

:thumbsup2

DME usually does 3-4 resorts and it really depends on the bookings for that particular time so there is no hard and fast rule.

Typically it serves three but can be more and usually they are grouped within a certain area (though not necessarily a certain category e.g. moderate/deluxe etc).

Re. the luggage, I had to drop our luggage once on the secondary belt as it was in the good old days when US bound flights still allowed 2 pieces of hold luggage per person and I was with my then 6 year old who wasn't unable to help me. It took nearly half an hour for our bags to show up on the other side. The next trip I had her doing practice runs on the staircase at home so that she could take the hand luggage while I took the big cases. No way would I wait that long for my stuff again. Besides, I also like to set the room up as soon as we arrive and be done with it

I think I will just be keeping our bags with us and using the DME. Hey its free and being a Scot and all that :lmao::joker:

Are you needing a transfer from Dundee to Glasgow? Is there a train that runs through to Glasgow Central from Dundee? I thought there was but could be mistaken. There is an airport bus that goes from Buchanan Street Bus Station regularly and I forget what it costs but it is small change and can be pre booked online. Only challenge is if you have an early departure with Thomas Cook. I tend to book an airport hotel as we normally fly out early and it is just easier and less stress but these little expenses do all add up

hi yeah I know of a private transfer which is good, but we are using them....unless we can share?? how many of you are going? if we share it would be cheaper.

Yeah from dundee to glasgow, I have emailed a few local firms so waiting on prices.

All trains from Dundee arrive at glasgow queen street, if you wanted to go further you change at Queen street, I think we will go round a few firms and see what an airport transfer is. :thumbsup2 if that's more than we expected we may opt for a hotel with free parking

There are 4 of us 2 adults 2 kids, 4 suitcases & 4 hand luggage! probably better taking this to p.m rather than chatting on the forum?

:goodvibes

Well if you go with that option don't book your hotel until you consult with the DISboards ;) I got a cracking deal plus 11% cashback on my Glasgow airport hotel for next year. It ended up £30 cheaper than the Premier Inn
