Using Disney gift cards in the park

Sorry for the dumb question but I want to make sure. I have a few Disney gift cards I would like to use on our MK day. Are they accepted in all of the restaurants and snack places? And, in all the gift shops?

Thanks!

Most of what you mentioned take gift cards. The only place that might not is the carts, like during a parade or the balloon guy. You can also charge to your room and after you get back to the resort, just pay it off at the front desk.

Gift cards can no longer be used to pay off your room. Only a credit card can be linked to your room and for charging.

Even the food carts can take gift cards now unless there physical system has crashed. As a rule of thumb, if they can take room charge or credit card they can take gift cards. Unless they are a third party vendor(Disney springs, face painters, glass blowers/workers.)

It's true you can't link a gift card to your room for charging purposes, but you can pay off any charges at the end of the day with a gift card. Also, I paid our room balance off using gift cards this past May without any issues.

We have used gift cards just about everywhere in the parks without a problem. They only place we've never used them is the carts where they sell the glow items. We've paid cash there.

Yes, they can.

You can't transfer the funds from a gift card and leave a credit balance on your room, but you absolutely can pay off your room charges with a gift card.

I stayed Tuesday-Thursday at POR and was told I couldn't. Maybe the CM Disnt know how but I did find it strange when se said she couldn't.

Were you paying off room charges? Where you checking out that day? You have to go to the front desk the night before you check out, before they charge your card on file, in order to pay room charges with gift cards. Some folks have reported success with having the charges reversed and then paying with the gift card on check-out day, but to keep it simple, pay the day before.

You should have asked for a manager.
I've noticed a lot of CMs just say "no, that can't be done" when they don't know how to do something.

We stopped using room charge because of assorted issues. We just use the gift cards in the parks as we go, if we have them.

I have two ways to keep track of balances as we go:

One: the card balance is printed on the receipt, and ideally circled by the CM or me. I wrap it around the gift card.
Two: I carry a micro sized Sharpie to mark them, especially when they are completely used. They get an X.

That said, if you use them for your hotel room or merchandise- HOLD on to them, because a refund would be put BACK on the card.

Oh, one thing I discovered that we could NOT buy with a gift card is another Disney gift card. ;)

We've paid our room charges with a gift cards the last 4-5 times we've gone- we usually have accumulated about $1,000 in gift cards prior to each trip through various discounts and go down several times through the trip to pay the balance- it's no big deal at all - really easy.

I know you said you didn't use room charging but technically you could buy a gift card with a gift card if you purchased it in a park, charged it to the room, then paid the room bill with a gift card. It probably wouldn't benefit you much but it is possible (I've done it before at F&W because I wanted to use the little wrist gift card bands instead of the regular sized cards)

I checked on this on our last trip in September because it had been reported that a guest couldn't use a MB to purchase a giftcard.

The GF Concierge stated they no longer allow giftcards to be purchased by charging to a MagicBand. She stated it's because of the delay in the actual charges being applied to the credit card that's attached to the room resort.

Interesting- i did this this November on wine and dine half half marathon weekend and did not have any problems

I had some gift cards that I used to pay for merchandise and food in the parks. Also used gift cards at the outlet stores on I-Drive and Vineland Ave. No problem.

I also stopped by the front desk several times during our stay to pay down the balance using the gift cards. No problem there either.

That is interesting!

I hadn't attempted to purchase a giftcard; I was only getting info to report back to a thread here. The Concierge was positive it was because of the lag in when the charge actually was processed.

I believe you I'm guessing I just got a misinformed cast member. Like I said I don't do it often but I have done it a couple of times- won't count on it in the future
