Using digital zoom...

Do you ever use the digital zoom in your camera, or just stick to the optical zoom?

  • I never use the digital zoom, it's turned off!

  • Sometimes I turn it on,sometimes I turn it off!

  • I leave the setting on, not caring whether it is an optical or digital zoom!

Is there anyone that has the digital zoom turned on? Why would you want it? What is it you can do with the digital zoom in the camera that you can't do back on your desktop with your favorite software?

(get the feeling I'm not a digital zoom fan?) :goodvibes

Digital zoom is a cruel joke, played upon those who are uninformed. It must have been dreamed up by marketing, as another misleading number to sell with.

You need one more option. "dSLR user, don't even have a digial zoom"

Not only can you do everything you could do with digital zoom on your computer instead, using digital zoom makes the picture take up more memory stick or memory card space in the camera while contributing nothing to picture quality.

I agree with you are better off doing it on the desktop...

I question why you think a photo taken with the digital zoom would be a larger file. If you are essentially cropping a piece of the photo and expanding it to the 6 Mp size, how could it take any more space? You aren't saving the "border" that you throw out!
