I have always just used Creative Memory products. I want to venture out a little. What would you say was the easiest and cheapest embellishment to start with? Also do you think it best to start with solid color cardstock before trying patterned paper?

Thanks for your help.

I guess it depends what you're trying to do. The patterned paper is something I usually use with solid cardstock. By that I mean I'll use the patterned paper to "wallpaper" or cover the whole page because I want to add that background interest. Then I'll mat my photos in a color that works with the paper and sets off the photo.

I think it depends what your theme is. The stuff from Jolee's Boutique is so cute and they can add a little "pizazz" to a page. I'm with Deb on the patterened papers. I tend to use it as the "wallpaper" and then use a coordinating plain cardstock for matting and journalling.
Tags and eyelets can really make a page too.
I have to admit I rarely do beads or wire. I'm a "simple scrapbooker".

Thanks for the comments ladies.
Are there any embellishment type things that you can make yourself? I guess I need to start looking aorund more but it is nice to get first hand input from people.
I would love to hear more of what you all do.

They are inexpensive, require cheap tools(a large needle and a mousepad) are great accents...also attach vellum and they come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes.

Once you master these you can branch out to eyelets.

Well, there's paper piecing. I haven't done it but since I got my Sizzix machine I've thought about combining several cut-outs on different paper and then piece it together....Oh, that makes no sense!! If you go to www.sizzix com you might see what I mean.
I use my sizzix to make my own tags, letters, and mats.

::yes:: I buy a lot of Jolee's stuff....it's really cute and it looks great on the pages. :teeth: I prefer to keep my page layouts/designs somewhat simple--not too done up. So like the OP I do not use wire or anything like that....but there are some very nice and simple embellishments out there.

I love to make and use serendipity squares. They are fun to make and You can get as creative as you want. Once you have made a sheet of them you can uses them for nuggets. deco squares, tags, borders, titles or just about anything to embellish or balance your page.
I went on a search to find some how to's and some examples for you.

Have fun

You all are so great. I am getting lots of great ideas. The scrapjazz site has lots of ideas too. I now feel like I can try some new things and be able to do them. I bought some tags and little brads today too. I won a door prize at a craft store today and got a few embellishments in it as well as a nice leather scrapbook. This whole things gets way to fun at times.

Thank you all that have replied.
