Using Developer Points

Has anyone been able to swap developer points with points you had previously used to book a vacation? I had a trip previously planned at SSR and received SSR developer points and wanted to put my points back into my account so I could use the developer points instead but MS told me I can't do it. The night I want is not available, but since I already had it booked I thought I could just switch the points. Just wondered if anyone had any experiences like this TIA

Since developer points can only be used at the 7 month window, you cannot just substitute them for other points if the night is not available when you call. MS has to first cancel the night made with "your" points. If there is someone on the waitlist for that night, it would go to them and you would end up with nothing for that night.

If MS allowed "point substituiton" with points that weren't available to make the reservation when it was first made, it would not be fair to those on the waitlist.
