Seems like I remember that there have been some issues in the past when you want to use a debit card to pay for room charges. Can someone remind me if this is okay to do? Don't they put some kind of huge hold on your account or something like that? For our upcoming trip, I really want to pay cash for everything but don't want to take a lot of cash. I guess I could use my debit card for each individual purchase, but really I'd like to just pay for everything at once when we check out. I am trying not to use any credit cards these days. Any comments on using debit cards at WDW would be greatly appreciated.

I do it all the time.... Never an issue unless your issuer has a very low daily maximum charge...

I use a chase cc for all purchases to get the points (between 1-5% depending on purchase) and pay off every month. It's the same as paying cash or using a debit card. I know that doesn't answer your question but it is an option if the debit card doesnt work.

They don't put any holds on either debit or credit cards. As long as your bank allows you to charge a sufficient amount per day on your debit card to cover what you plan to spend you should have no issues.

We have always used our debit card linked to the room key without a problem. Call your bank and let them know your travel dates and check the daily limit. Some banks will allow higher limits during a specified time for vacations or a big purchase. If not, you can just cash out every couple days with the front desk.

Most debit cards have a daily limit (often $1,000). This limit is in place to protect you in case of theft, as the rules are somewhat different for debit cards than CCs. However, most debit card issuers will do a temporary increase upon request. Check with your issuer and see if this is the case (and what your daily limit is). If so and your balance due is more than the daily limit you will just need to contact them to authorize a higher amount.

One thing to remember is that I don't believe that debit cards have the same protection if your number/pin get stolen. The credit card will only have you responsible for a small amount (as long as you let them know) but I don't believe that is true for debit cards.
