using borrowed points, what if cancelled?

Hi everyone. We've been DVC members for 16 years and I have a question related to something that we haven't dealt with before. I am planning a low budget WDW trip with a friend for March 2016 (staying at Pop Century). She only wants to stay 4 nights, but that is just not long enough for me . I am toying with borrowing points from our August 2016 UY to stay an extra 3 nights at a DVC resort. We are using all of our August 2015 UY points on a trip to BCV with friends. I am 99.9% sure of the dates and that I will stay the extra 3 nights in March. Can someone please tell me that if I had to cancel the DVC portion of the stay, would my borrowed points have to be used for a stay that was competed by 7/31/16 (before my new UY begins)? Thanks !

Borrowed points stay in the use year they are moved to. So yes, in your situation your borrowed 2016 points would expire 07/31/16 if not used by that date.

When is your BCV trip? You can re-allocate points among reservations to make sure the borrowed points are used first. That way, you could use borrowed points for BCV, and if you had to cancel the other trip, you could bank those points.

Our BCV trip is in September. I didn't know that you could re-allocate points. Thanks for the tip . I may give member services a call this week and discuss my options. Thanks!
