Using base tickets from free dining later

Reading the boards, you say that the one day base tickets from the free dining plan can be used later. We have AP, but are going back next May with the kids(no AP). Can the kids use the one day base tickets? As I understand it, we can upgrade the tickets to a 10 day hopper and water parks ticket and just apply the price of the one day base ticket to the total cost? With a package deal the tickets are usually on your room key card. Do we just present the room key card when we purchase their tickets next year? Sorry to sound confused, but I want to make sure we can use these base tickets on our trip in May. With the free dining, how do the credits work? Is it a separate card or put on your room key card? Thanks :)

You may need to upgrade to another adult pass. I hope someone knows for sure :confused3

Everything is put on your room card. The park tickets expire 14 days after they are first used. So, if you don't use the tickets at all on the next trip, then they will be good when ever you do decide to use them. And then when you do use them, they would need to use the room card as the ticket. But I think if you want to upgrade them, you may need to do that before you leave. I think I remember hearing that while riding the monorail from epcot to the ttc. The announcer that is talking the entire time you are riding back and forth was saying something about upgrading the tickets, and I think it said something aboutdoing it before you leave, but mostly was ignoring it, so I am not positive.

My advice to you (as I did this very thing last year and will be doing it again this year)...have guest services at the parks "pull off" your one day ticket from your room key and issue you the ticket separately. Then you can hold onto that ticket until such time that you wish to either use it or upgrade it to another ticket type. It will be much easier than if you do nothing and leave the park ticket on the room key (we did this last year and were SURPRISED to find out that the park ticket--which had not yet been used--was showing as invalid at the turnstiles when we returned 2 months later to use the ticket. I had to go to guest services to have the ticket reissued. It wasn't a problem to do so because they can see it has not yet been used, but it would have been easier if I had have just had the tickets removed from the room key to begin with. This only happens if you do not activate the ticket with your package during your stay.)
