Using AirMiles for Hotels

I was talking with my MIL recently and mentioned that DS and I will be using AirMiles for some of our hotel nights when we go to Europe next year. She offered to transfer some of her miles to me for that, but I know it is ridiculously expensive to do that. Would she be able to pay for a hotel with her AirMiles and she not be on the hotel reservation? Is it possible for her to rent a room for us with her miles?

I haven't personally done that for a hotel but I have purchased a flight for someone I wasn't travelling with. When we booked a hotel in the summer they never asked anything about who had booked the hotel when we checked in. It simply showed up as a prepaid hotel reservation.

100% not a problem at all. I think you can even set the name of the person staying at the hotel, I'll confirm when I get home. Even if that's not a possibility, I did it last summer when our girls were out east on a camping trip and it had poured for 3 days straight so I sprung for a hotel room to let them dry out. Like mentioned above it shows up at the hotel as a prepaid reservation and no one has ever questioned it, they ask for a credit card to cover any incidental charges but that is it.
As far as transferring miles ... omg I think it's 15 cents per mile!!! I'm super jelly btw, have a blast

OK, home now and just did a mock reservation to see if i was correct -- once you get to the final step, before you actually "pay" you will see this at the bottom of the screen. Simply fill that section out with the names of the people going -- easy-peasy

Yep I do it all the time for DH if he's the one checking in - you just add in the adult's name on the reservations. I've never had an issue.
