I contacted four different travel agencies enquiring about the exact same package (the "Kids Fly Free" deal offered by Alaskan Airlines). I got FOUR different prices (and yes, the packages were identical and all included taxes etc.)!!!

I have no idea why or how this occurs but thought I'd pass along the tip.

since the airlines basically eliminated commissions, many agents are surviving by charging "fees" on transactions. Each agent can choose if and how much to charge.

Why not go directly thru Alaska Airlins Vacation center?
Cut out the middle man...Just an idea.
I did it that way!!

Snobrdgrl32 - I didn't want the Alaska Airlines package (since I could get a better hotel for less $$). When I contacted Alaska Airlines directly, they wouldn't sell me flight only and yet a discount travel broker managed to do just that - don't ask me how, I'm just happy that I've got a great price on my flight and a good deal at my hotel!!!

I guess the bottom line for my tip is that, if you have the time, it pays to shop around!

Getting different prices from Travel Agents isn't so unusual...that is why you should try a couple. The agency I worked for does not charge a fee for booking a tour package. They do charge a fee for airline tickets and it varies if the customer has a coupon or voucher they will charge more. When you request things in a tour package be specific. When asking for transfers they are different kinds; airport bus, van shuttle, limo. In our agency we do shuttle van 3/4 of the time. We do airport bus on request only....they have lost two different clients luggage by forgetting to close luggage compartment door plus it just takes alot longer to get to your hotel/airport. Make sure you ask agency if they charge fees and how much and what for. Also each tour company will have different prices. Each tour company has their own contracts with the hotels, plus some tour companies give you more than others. Our agency 90 percent of the time books with Walt Disney Travel Company. They have an office in Downtown Disney in case you have any questions or problems. They give you all kinds of little extras that make the package more fun. Here are some of the travel tour companies we deal with the most"
