using a shower curtain as a stroller rain cover?

We were caught in a tropical depression that lasted for several days at Disney years ago, when I had a little one in a stroller, and I didn't have a "stroller cover", I used ponchos and what ever I could fined. I remember seeing those covers and wishing that I had thought of that. The wind would get up, the ponchos would blow off while we were in a show, and we would come back to a soaked stroller. I never made that mistake again. Nothing works as well as a stroller cover, IMO.

I used a clear shower curtain when my kids were small and we were at WDW. They are teens now. It worked great. I tied it to the back of the stroller and rolled it up on the sun shade so when we went into any attraction I would cover the stroller and tie it to the front wheels to hold it down. Storms pop up quickly in Florida. It worked great. They could see out of it and it kept the whole stroller dry.

It may sound weird but it worked great and was cheap. I used the same one for a number of trips.

The one that I had did cover her feet, she was about two at the time. I got it at Babies R Us back then.

Another thing you have to remember is that at some attractions, mainly shows, you park the stroller at one place, and the CM's move them to another location. They are not going to take the time to see if the poncho, or shower curtain is still in the same position. The stroller cover will not move. They are fairly cheap too. I think mine was under 20.00.

We were there for 12 days of nonstop rain a few Mays ago and were so glad we had the stroller covers that came with our Mac Volos.

They never came off the strollers the entire trip (just flipped them up, even to fold the strollers for the busses). They stayed in place and kept the strollers and the kids dry. Also, they were completely clear so the kids could actually see. We saw many drenched kids in strollers trying to peek out through ponchos that they were using as covers.


A poncho or shower curtain would work if you just had a shower during the afternoon once or twice during your trip, but for the constant rain we experienced that trip our stroller covers were the most valuable thing we brought.

I only have experience with the one kind, but they extend below the foot rest so they would cover any size child's feet as long as they didn't stick them out under the foot rest.


Of course, if it's raining really hard or you're pushing the stroller through flooded areas some water may splash up under the back of the legs. (Some other Dis'ers posted pics from Epcot the one day we were there where where we were wading through above-the-ankle deep water... the kids got a bit wet that day from water soaking through the bottom of the seat and being above the foot rests on their strollers, but other than that they stayed completely dry.)

Please don't use a shower curtain with a child in the stroller rain covers are designed to be safe for children with holes to allow children to breath. Shower curtains don't have these holes!! If your only going to use it to cover the stroller when on rides that's fine, but please not cover your child with one!! I live in the UK (where rain covers are prevelant even in summer) and even prolonged usage of rain cover isn't really recommended, because of the flow of air, especially if it is warm the child could get dehydrated. It's like a greenhouse, keeping warm air in.

I love the idea of a cleat shower curtain. I'm puttin it on my list to buy before we go. We normally bring a LARGE trash bag from home, just in case.
