Using a PIN...hoping for a code

My sister has reservations at POP for the last week in April. She first made them at rack rate but then remembered she could use AAA for a discount so she called to make that change. (She is hoping for a code to come out later.)

Last week, she got an e-mail with a PIN number that would give a little better rate than what she has now on AAA. (I think she said it would be $10-$15 less/night). If she calls to apply the PIN number to her ressie, can she modify it again IF a code comes out later on? Or would this ressie have to be cancelled & a new one made in order to use a code? I have never had any experience using a PIN & then a code so not sure how that works.

Would it be simpler/better to not use the PIN & let the ressie stand as it is now hoping a code will come out & then make one call for that? I guess I'm wondering if making several calls to make changes could somehow mess up her ressies completely. I would really appreciate advice & suggestions from the DIS experts ...all thoughts welcome!

When I made my initial ressie, I started with rack rate, then the rates for my time time out and it was lowered. Then I applied AAA to my ressie. Then I applied the AP rate to it. Then, (last then) I had to change the dates!!! Well, all worked out just fine. As long as there is availability there should not be a problem. I have kept all my paperwork and will be sure to bring it with me!!

It will all depend on what's available when you try and change it.
For both emails with PIN numbers and discount codes, a certain number of rooms at certain hotels are usually allocated. If there is a room at your resort available under the PIN or code rate when you try and apply it, you shouldn't have a problem. However it's not a guarantee. We went this past November. I had 2 rooms booked at POFQ under a AAA discount. Then I got an email with a PIN which had a better rate. When I called to apply the new rate... I was told that the PIN rate was not available at POFQ for my dates... so we had to rebook it for another hotel (POR), to get the discount.
