We are a family of 5 traveling on Airtran next January. I have enough A+ credits for all of us to flight one way on Airtran and I have Southwest gift cards for the return flight.

I went online and tried to book 5 seats this evening using the A+ credits on Airtran and could only get 3 seats. Here's my question by chance will more ff seats open up in the future or should I paid cash for the other two seats and how long should I wait before paying cash?

Thanks.

You can never really predict what the airlines will do BUT my experience has always been, once those rewards flights are gone, they're gone.

If only 3 were available then that's it. A+ seats are usually the cheapest level seats...the first tier of pricing. When those sell out, that's it, price goes up, and no more A+ seats. Just use the 3 you have (quickly) and buy the other 2.

Now, if you have any flex in you dates you could experiment with their on-line schedule to see if different dates offer everything you need. Sometimes shifting by one day can make a difference.

I'm not sure how many A+ credits you have left and whether they will expire before you can use them. You might use them to upgrade to business class. If you fly business class then you aren't charged for baggage. I believe it takes 2 A+ credits to upgrade. Just a thought.

It's four credits to upgrade to business class and unless you are elite you can't do that until the day before your flight.

I haven't flown AirTran for a couple of years, but used the 2 credits to upgrade several times. Thanks for the reminder that it's the day before the flight. I have always been able to upgrade whether it was for credits or fee paid.

I really liked AirTran and hated it when Southwest bought them and will eventually change them to Southwest.

Well it's definitely four credits now as I do it pretty regularly. I only have had one time I wasn't able to upgrade and it was on the way back from Orlando when PepBoys had been there for a convention and one of the prizes or rewards for something was upgrade to business class so they had the whole business class filled several weeks before the flight.

And I agree. I will miss Airtran when they are totally gone.

thanks guys..

I took the 3 A+ credit seats and will purchase the other 2 seats. I used my Southwest points to purchase these tickets, my DH told me to go ahead and change enough points over to Air Tran for 5 seats, now I wish I would of done a couple at a time because now I have 16 A+ credits to use, which will expire next July. I guess I'll have to plan another trip or maybe I'll upgrade to business class.
