Using a CC when buying a car

OP here. Thanks for all the replies!

I went and made an offer on a car tonight, but it was turned down so I walked away. So I didn't get far enough to ask about some or all of the purchase being with a credit card. The salesman gave me the usual comment of "We have to make something on the car", brought over his sales manager, etc. etc.

I admit that my offer was fairly bold, but I'm not so sure it was totally out of the question. :confused3
 
It'll depend on the dealer. Like others here my dealer was willing to let me charge $5K but the rest had to come from cash/check/financing.

The reason why dealers won't let you charge the full amount of the car is because of the potential for chargebacks that could really bite them if a customer felt like screwing over the dealership.

This guy tried to buy a Maserati GranTurismo S with his Amex Black card and got rejected for the reason I gave above:
