Using $100 Disney gift card at the restaurants

My mom opened the Disney Visa for the $100 promotion they were offering. She got the card today (yippee!!!), but we wanted to make sure she can use that at the restaurants at Disney.

If it is a gift card, you should be able to use it like cash at any of the Disney restaurants that accept them. This is a Visa gift card right? You can always contact the restaurant ahead of time to double check if you wanted! Enjoy. We got the $100 from the 4/3 promo and I was able to apply it to my room charges (which consisted mostly of gratutities from our table service meals) when we checked out!

You can use the gift card at all restaurants at the parks and the Disney owned resorts. You will not be able to use it at the restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin.

You will be able to use the card at WDW restaurants, but I did have one issue when I tried to use mine. When the card is charged at a restaurant, an additional 20% is added to the bill before approving the transaction. I'm not sure if it's the restaurant or the credit card company that does this, but its done to allow for the tip. Ultimately, you're only charged for what you sign for, but they account for an additional tip before approving.

When we were at California Grill, we tried putting our $100 Visa gift card towards the bill. There was a $100 available, but it kept getting denied. After that, we just used the card for other purchases besides restuarants. We then called Visa and were told about the tip thing.

Would you beable to use the gift card at the Rainforest Cafe in either Downtown Disney or Animal Kingdom? When I go down in July my friend wanted to go there but I didn't think about not being able to use a gift card.

How strange! I have used Disney gift cards numerous times at many Disney restaurants and never had this happen. In those situations where the amount of the meal was more than the amount remaining on the gift card, I have never had a problem having the gift card charged for the amount remaining on it and then paying the excess amount with the room charge/Visa/etc. To have the card rejected because of a phantom 20% tip seems very odd.

I thought it was odd as well. But that was explaination I was given when I call Visa, and it happened with 2 different cards at different restaurants. We get Visa gifts cards alot through various promotions at work, and the same thing has happened to a few of my coworkers.
