anyone else get a zero percentage credit card to take to the parks? Seems like i get an offer every day. If we are planning a trip however, I get one of these and pay it off over a period of several months without paying any interest. Of course I cancel it when paid off.

i saw those credit cards, i decided to get a delta sky miles amex so i can at least get airline miles for my next trip. they double miles for grocery stores, drug stores, and home depot type stores.

Yeah, I just got the Disney Visa from Chase. 0% APR first 6 months on anything and 0% APR for 6 months for Disney packages.

Word to the wise, make sure you make at least a minimum payment every month or you'll lose the 0% offer

Oh yeah - I usually ignore them, but one was just too good to be true. It's 0% until September 2006. So, that's how I'm paying for our trip in 2 weeks...well come of it. Not all of it. When I pay it off, I'll probably keep it because the interest rate is good beyond the 0% - better than some of our other cards.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as you're sure you can pay it off in time to not incur interest. We've never used CC's for our trips, but I feel okay doing it this way. I could pay for the trip outright, but I want to do some other things with out $$$ now, so this came at a wonderful time. I can certainly pay it off in 13 months.

I am so glad I looked at this thread. We leave on June 24th and for the last couple of days I have been feeling guilty because we need to put about $2000 on a credit card. I am going to put it on my GM card so I can get the 5% towards a car and then when we get home transfer it to our 0% card that needs to be payed off June 06. I feel much better knowing that other people use credit cards for their trips. I was starting to feel that it was a mistake to go on this trip. We definately will be able to pay it off by Xmas time, but I was feeling bad that I couldn't get the trip totally paid for by the time we leave.

Don't feel bad. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to have some fun in life. You'll be in debt for the rest of you life (more than likely) one way or the other. With that I mean, a mortgage, car, etc...

Take life and enjoy things every now and then. I've learned not to take things for granted...

tamman- you may have to pay a fee to transfer- check with credit card co. It might be worth it to just put the expenses on the 0% card to begin with if the transfer fee is higher than the rewards you get on the other card.
We did that once with a 0% card- got the card, paid for the trip- then paid it off over the next several months with no interest. It worked out well for us even though I prefer to have it all paid up front.

Cheapmom- Thanks for the info. I checked and there are no fees involved. I always read the fine print on those credit cards promotions. I am always so skeptical about the offers. Our 0% card is only for balance tranfers and not for purchases. Thanks for the advive we leave in a week and I am not going to worry about money. Now, if only someone could do something about the crowds and heat :earboy2:

There is nothing wrong with charging to a credit card and even paying interest for something that you and your family enjoy as long as in put into part of your budget (this is MHO)

The problem (or mistake) people make is when they start relying on just making the minimum payments so that they can enjoy non-essential items.

That is why the average family now carries over 5,000 in credit card debt.

Caution, if some transactions using the card have "0% finance charge" while other transactions using the same card have real finance charges, then the payments you do make go against the 0% balance first. The part of the balance that has real finance charges then continues to rack up more real finance charges.

So if you have a "0% credit card" you need a second credit card and lots of good discipline to charge only things that add to the "0% balance" on your "0% credit card".
