If a DVC Member has 150 points coming in April 2007 at BWV, when can they first book a trip using those points? Can you book in May of 2006 for April of 2007 or do you have to wait until you actually get the points? How does this apply when borrowing points?

You can book your Apr 2007 trip in May 2006 (11 months to the day--they go by the day your check out).... Or, you could borrow your points for an April 2006 stay (you could make that ressie right now! )

You already have your April 2007 points in your account and you could be making use of them right now. For example, you could book a stay with a checkout date 11 months from today: 1/10/07. Your 2006 Use Year points would be "current" year points for that stay, but you could also borrow from your 2007 Use Year for that reservation. (You could also bank some of your 2005 Use Year points and use them for that reservation.)

I think it helps to look at points, Use Years and reservations like this:

2005 UY points are valid for stays: 4/1/05 - 3/31/06
2006 UY points are valid for stays: 4/1/06 - 3/31/07
2007 UY points are valid for stays: 4/1/07 - 3/31/08
2008 UY points are valid for stays: 4/1/08 - 3/31/09
etc.

You can move points forward one Use Year by borrowing, and you can move them back one Use Year by banking.

You can make reservations 11 months in advance of your checkout day at your home resort, 7 months in advance at any resort. Your reservation dates determine which points can be used for that stay.

Your 2007 points become available for borrowing on April 1, 2006. You can book reservations from April 1, 2006 forward, using borrowed 2007 points.

For ressies at you home resort, you can book up to 11 months ahead of your checkout date. For ressies at any non-home resort, you can book up to seven months ahead. So...that means you could book a ressie at ANY resort on April 1, 2006 for April 2, 2006, if there was availability.

You will only borrow the necessary points for the particular reservation you make.

Bear in mind that borrowed points cannot be "UN-borrowed" if your plans change. You will be borrowing 2007 points into your 2006 use year, and they can't go back. That means, if your plans change, the points will have to be used or lost by March 31, 2007.

The reservation must fall between the start date and expiration date of the points. So, yes, you must complete your reserved stay by the expiration date of the points.

Actually, the 2007 points became available for borrowing on May 2, 2005. On that day, the night of Apr 1, 2006 could have been booked, and 2007 points could have been borrowed to book that night.

Points do not "appear" in your account on the first day of your use year. All of the points are already in your account for use in the appropriate use year. You do not have to wait for the use year to start to use them or borrow them, it all goes by the date of stay, not by the date you make the reservation. That also applies to point expiration, the stay must end by the point expiration date, not just booking a reservation by that date.

I have 200 points from Sept 2005. I must use them by Sept 2006. I'm not planning my next trip til Jan 2007. Even if I make a reservation for 2007 they would still need to be banked because the trip is after September. Correct?

I can still book my Jan 2007 at the 11 month window even though I don't get my banked points til September 2006?

As long as you bank those '05 points, they are available for any trips that occur between September 1 2006 and August 31, 2007. WHEN you make the ressies has nothing to do with use year. The points are tracked by when the trip is taken, not by when you call to make the ressie. The booking is made as early as 11 months from the day of check out. MS will take the points from the appropriate use year.
