How do you get the user name and password to sign on to the members only area on Disneys Web Site?

If you email me, I will be glad to give it to you. We aren't supposed to post it here.
smvdelv@aol.com
I tried to email you, but it wouldn't go thru!

You have to be a member and when you are you will get instructions with your membership materials. If you haven't received them, you can call your guide or member services and give them your number and they can assist you.

Let the person call MS or look in one of there Vacation Magics to get it.˜

I guess by 'the person' you mean me. I never liked people talking about me like I was not there. I will call and get it tomorrow

Nothing personal Peshowe. Currently, there isn't any state secret on the board but it's a good idea to limit access to members just in case things improve in the future. It is fairly simple to remember and a member can find out the answer in the Vacation Magic or by calling MS.

With all due respect, I have just about had it with the Members Only site and the TOP SECRET password and ID needed to access it. I have just combed the site and I didn't find ONE THING on there that hasn't been posted on this or any other DVC board. Is it TOP SECRET what the DVC resorts are? Or what the perks are for members? Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought we were supposed to spread the word about the DVC perks...
As for the comment that it is a good idea to "limit access just in case things improve in the future", like what????? And do you honestly believe that there will be so many people flocking to this site that you won't be able to access it? Give me a break.
Well, forgive me everyone, but I DID email Peshowe, and gave him/her the password. So if you can't access the site because of all the "traffic", blame me. And I'm taking bets that there will NEVER be anything on the Members Only site that will be TOP SECRET and that you won't have heard first on one of these boards. I think some people just like the idea that they have the password to this "exclusive" site. I, personally, couldn't care LESS.

Do whatever you like. E-mailing the info to a fellow member is fine. But before anyone starts randomly broadcasting the password just bear in mind that people gave out the 800# to DVC and lots of non-members started using it for making PS reservations, asking questions, etc. (hence the recordings we now have to listen to.) Those calls aren't really "free", we pay for them through dues. They once broke out the costs for non-member calls and it was substantial.

If there were no reason to build a password ID into the system, why would it be there?

Pam I truly had no problem calling up MS. I actually posted the thread asking to whom I needed to call or email. I'm sure you realise I am a member right?

What I was responding to was the way that normr posted a response to my thread and did not direct the answer to my question but typed it as though i was non existant

I think that the "so called" secret nature of Disney's curent member site is a lot of unnecessary hype. Except for the ability to look up an updated version of the other resorts available through DVC it is just Disney addvertisement. They really should upgrade the members site if they are going to continue to tease us all with the secret password baloney. It is really not a secret at all. Members should have access to their point accounts on a "secure" members site.

I can't speak for normr but for my self, I try to not be personal at the same time posting the factual information that I want to portray. I'm sure normr was trying to say he thought it was wrong to post the password and sign on here, I would agree with him. I'm sure he wasn't trying to make you feel unwanted. This has come up before and the general concensus of the members on this site is call DVC or check in the Vacation Magic. Obviously if you're certain one is a member, it's not a big deal ro remind them of the login info. Good luck and enjoy.

I totally agree that these so called priveleges that we get are b.s. They are nothing more than glorified access to a website which gives us insight to absolutely nothing. If they are going to make us feel special by giving us these priveleges then they actually need to do something special!!!

On the other hand...I certainly don't want anybody who does not belong to DVC to have the number, or anybody that doesn't belong to the MK Club have the #800, or the password to their website. (Even though they don't tell us anything new --that's the sucky part).

So I guess my point is...Disney needs to treat us special people MORE special

and....

I don't want people who are not members to have this information. :D

The password wasn't meant to keep non-members out,it was to make members feel special. Why do you think it is what it is and can't be changed.

The link says for members only, I don't appreciate people giving out the password just because they feel there is nothing of importance there now, but if we all want the site to get better and allow us to do more like making reservations, viewing our accounts and so forththen we need to follow the rules, all this is all entirely possible but if some people are going to give out the access codes allowing outsiders in, then the possibility of compromising the site increases greatly.

We've been asked not to give out the log-on infomation.

And why would we assume that these people are members, when first of all, you have no clue on how to get on the site in the first place or who to call and your handle says "welcomed guest", maybe you just logged on and created a new account just to get someone to give you this information.

It seems to be a basic policy on these boards that certain information not meant for the general public not be shared. For instance, certain discount codes for car rentals and accomodations. This is done out of respect for the businesses providing the goods/services, to protect people from finding themselves in the position of not having the necessary backup documentation (as in a coupon, postcard, etc), and to minimize the risk of abuses resulting in losing the benefit of the discount all together.

With regard to the user name or password for the DVC Members Only site: I can understand why Pete would prohibit the specific information being given out here--Disney has the site set up to require the use of a user name and password...for whatever reason...and provides that information to its members. Anyone coming to this board looking for this information has been directed to where they will find it...by calling Member Services, or looking it up in their DVC book. If they aren't members, and are therefore unable to get this information from a DVC book or from Member Services, it's because they are not supposed to have it

NORMR, When DVC allows members to start using the members only area for the things you mentioned, then they will have to allow us to set up our own ID's and passwords. As the site stands now I don't think it should be an issue. The one member mention certain discount codes availible to members- you can get the same discounts from a lot of other sources, it's just a way venders track customers, lets them know where to spend advertising dollars.

For one thing, you can't ALWAYS get the same discount from a lot of other sources.

If vendors are using the discount codes to track where to spend their advertising dollars, and they aren't getting the accurate information they're looking for, then they will discontinue offering it.

And as I said, it has happened that people get to a rental counter or front desk without the appropriate coupons, postcard, etc., and find out at that point, ON their vacation, that they are not entitled to the discount.

If Disney's DVC site states that it is for MEMBERS ONLY, requiring a password and user name, then certainly Pete would have the integrity not to allow that information to be posted here.

Those were my points.

If a non member finds out at a rental counter that they can't get the discount, are you as a member disappointed that they didn't. Seems to me I'd be thinking "serves you right". As for advertisers, they are getting the right statistics because the DVC page was where people saw it. They don't care who you are, they just want to know where you saw it.

IN SUMMARY - Yes I am a DVC MEMBER, a new member. Just wanted to point out that if you focus on the actual initial question, I was asking how you obtain the password. The reason I was doing this was that it was late, I had just become a new member and was excited to check it out but MS was closed. At that point I didn't know if it was maybe my name and the password was my membership or phone nunmber etc..

The simple, consise answer to my question would have been that you need to be a member and you can get the password by calling the 800 DVC number.

Well I have called, got the information (boy I probably could have figured the password out with a couple of attemps <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">) and I and going to have a look now.

I think this would be a perfect time to end this thread. I was so suprised to sign on today to see it at the top again.
