I don't know if ML will be around this AM or not so I thought I would start one
and if she shows than we can have two.....

SO here is my Question....

Tattoos....

I am scheduled to get my first on May 12th

it is my Mothers Day present

so I thought i would see if you all had any

Poll coming...........

Okay, I will chime in on this one. I choose other. I don't have one, don't plan on getting one, but I love watching Miami Ink...it's one of my favorite shows (it's on tonight) :cool1: I believe, a tatoo done right is like a piece of art, but many I see just don't look great!

My Dad had many from his days in the service, and I watched him spend a lot of money and live in a lot of really bad pain trying to get them removed. This was before laser surgery, where they just kept cutting the skin away... :sad2:

I just don't like them. A lot of them look nice when done well, but after they get old they just look awful.

I don't have one, yet. I am having one done on June 15th with my sister.
I am going to have the Patriots emblem on my ankle. I have been a fan of the Patriots since I was 7 years old (I remember watching with my Dad every Sunday), so seems only appropriate to get that! :)

I don't like them either. It's not that I care if a 50-something has a saggy, wrinkled belly with a butterfly around their belly ring sticking out of their low-cut jeans :sad2:, I just don't want to have to look at it. I've just never seen the point of putting oneself through that kind of intentional pain.

BTW, I grew up in the Army and accompanied my father on more than one tattoo hospital visit where the poor guy not only was suffering in great pain from his grossly infected tattoo, but had to deal with the fact that he was getting some serious discipline (sometimes a discharge) for having it done. I'm sure that tarnished my view somewhat, but Miami Ink never does show those types of results... :(

I don't like them for two reasons. The first has already been mentioned - looks great on the young body, really not on the 60 year old body. Second, I shutter at the thought of what I might have had tattoo'd on in my early 20's. I was a completely different person back then and would not want to have a permanent reminder of some the silliness of that era.

Got one on my 30th Bday. Had plans for a 2nd one but then I found I was pregnant and put it off. Now, I'd love to get more but just can't justify the cost. If I win the lottery though..... :cool1:

If I had a "rockin' bod", I would probably get a tatoo somewhere where it wouldn't show when I was, shall we say, clothed. However, a tatoo on cellulite would not be pretty, and this discourages any visit I might make to the tatoo parlor. :rotfl2:

I think that a well-done tattoo is really cool (we like Miami Ink as well - but that show does make you want a tattoo!). I like the fine-line, shaded, artwork.

I've liked tattoos for quite awhile, but haven't gotten one b/c I can't find one that I like. Now that I am almost ready to have children, I probably wouldn't get one until later. I never wanted to get a tattoo where pregnancy would stretch it out! LOL

Anyway, more people that I thought have gotten tattoos later in life (meaning not the minute they turned 18), so that's good to know! :)

Well, I think they are useless. I know lots of people have them and that's OK with me. Just wouldn't want one for myself and would talk my kids out of getting one too.

Personally I don't like them, but my DH does have one on his upper arm. I've grown accustomed to it, but even he sometimes wishes he didn't have it. (It's from his younger, wilder days.)

Thanks for posting the poll for me Kayla :) You woke up earlier than me! I have the day off so I slept in. Once I did check in around noon I saw this one was already going :)

Anyway, on the subject - I had to think about it. I too, have watched Miami Ink and I am fascinated by it. As an artist I can appreciate how outstandingly talented they are. I wouldn't have the nerves it would take to be permanently drawing on someone's body. I mean, what if you sneeze?? :rotfl:

But, would I ever get a tattoo? More than likely not. Main reason? Freckles. Only thing I could get would be a Dalmatian. :lmao: As for areas on my body without freckles? Well, I get attacked by needles on a monthly basis.. I've had my share of being poked so I'll pass ;)

I used to work in a hospital. Every day I would walk down the geriatrics hall, and there would be this old, completely demented woman who they would for some reason put in the hallway to holler at passers-by. When very agitated, she was in the habit of tearing off her johnny to expose her widely-tattooed chest and arms, screaming the whole time, "look at me, look at me!". That cured me of ever wanting such a display permanently etched upon my aging bod.

Besides, anything I used to think was "cool" when I was young is extremely suspect now. I'm kinda skeeved out by them.

Just not for me - all sorts of reasons like others mentioned. They look better on a young body, would have gotten something different at 20 than now etc.

I see some and really like them but again - not for me.

where in n.e. are you samantha?

Yuck! Can't stand the thought of that needle for starters! And i have to say that I have never seen a tattoo that I liked. I have seen tattoos that were "well done" and could be considered art, however, I don't think they look good on a body. Everyone I know with a tattoo wishes they had either not done it, or done it differently and as they get older, these things just don't age well.

I have a tattoo. I've had it for 10 years now and it still looks good. When I went to have it done, I checked out all of the artists' work and ended up choosing the owner of the shop to do my tattoo b/c his work was the best. I had it done on the middle of my lower back so that it wouldn't get stretched out when I had kids (I planned ahead :teeth: ). Most people don't even know I have a tattoo b/c my clothes usually cover it. I love it and don't ever regret having it done. I want to get one representing my girls somehow, but I can't decide where it should go (somewhere that won't ever sag) and what it should be of (something not cheesy.)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Candy, but in time, EVERYthing sags!
